Offering an outdoor pool and spa centre, Castanheiro Boutique Hotel is set in Funchal, 500 metres from Marina do Funchal. Great hotel with super nice staff. We really enjoyed the spa and they even surprised me with a birthday surprise 😍 Parking was available nearby. They even prepared breakfast boxes for us as we had to check out before breakfast time.

Located in the hills surrounding Funchal, this 18th-century mansion is set in extensive botanical gardens with 600 different plant species. All rooms have balconies overlooking the gardens. Beautiful hotel with a very personalized feel. The gardens on the grounds are so unique and are quite the treat to walk through. Colombo the tortoise was fun to see– first time I've stayed at a hotel that had a tortoise haha. The room we had was very spacious and beds were comfortable. The outdoor breakfast space was amazing, the dinners we had were also very good. All-around, loved the boutique, personal feel of the hotel and would gladly go back if I ever had the chance!

Orquidea opens out on to an extra-large roof-top terrace, overlooking Funchal and the Atlantic Ocean. This is a great-value hotel, simple and a little old and worn (call is "classic"!), but comfortable; the location is perfect; the staff was very friendly and helpful (Ronnie was the best!); it was very cheap, the breakfast was decent with a beautiful view. Overall, we got more than we expected and more than we paid for. Thank you!

Set in lush, landscaped gardens, 5-star Quintinha São João features a spa and indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools. Overlooking central Funchal and the bay, it is 2 km from Funchal Cathedral. An outstanding experience! The whole personnel was professional and pleasant. Breakfast was nice, I liked how they had focused on the quality instead of the quantity. Everything in the hotel was very well thought. I definitely recommend you to try the spa - such a relaxing experience! Some have criticized it for being too small, but it also means personified service and tranquility. Our room was on the top floor, and we could enjoy the beautiful sunrises and sunsets and how they landed on the mountains from our balcony. Definitely my favourite moments from our trip.

Set in a historic building of central Funchal, Monte Carlo features a large elevated terrace and roof-top pool overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It is located only 800 metres from the Funchal Marina. I absolutely loved the location and the view was from heaven, overlooking all of the Funchal town to the Port below....I actually spent 11 nights here in total and will certainly be returning....lovely laid back atmosphere in the hotel and the staff were excellent....nothing was too much trouble, no complaints at all...the staff treated me like family and very obliging.....I'm sad to be leaving Madeira island tomorrow, such a happy holiday with beautiful memories....many thanks to the Management and Staff....cheers Colleen👍👍👍
