Very cute guesthouse! We stayed in the “principal’s office” which was a very large private room. Bathroom facilities are shared but very clean and no difficulty with access. Lounge space was nice to hang out in. Staff were excellent- they helped us book a dinner reservation ahead of time which was greatly appreciated. About a 6-7 minute walk away from the main tourist area of Magome.

The owner, Tack, was very friendly and helpful. The hostel is within easy walking distance of the train and bus station as well as the Old Town.

Featuring free bikes, garden and views of mountain, Tajimi Guest House is located in Tajimi, 33 km from Oasis 21. A hot spring bath is available for guests. Sublime location and wonderful people. Very real Japanese experience.

Located in Takayama, 1.3 km from Takayama Station and less than 1 km from the centre, Takayama Ninja House provides air-conditioned accommodation with free WiFi, and a shared lounge. The house is beautiful, and the owner, Octavio, was the most welcoming and dedicated host we have ever met in our travels. Highly recommended!

Located in 15-minute bus ride from JR Takayama Station, Guest House & Cafe SOY is surrounded by lush greenery. Free WIFi is provided and free private parking is available on site. Everything. This was the most perfect place to stay. It had a peaceful feel and the restoration done by Tai and his family was beautiful. 12/10.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. I have no words other than - wow. Beautiful place in the woods, minimalist interior, impeccable. It’s all about the small details! The shuttle service to and from the stay was also super helpful. We had dinner two nights in a row, the first night with the wine pairing. We had drinks we never had in our lives (we ended up buying a couple of bottles) and tasted one of the best meals we have ever had. The second night they remembered our favorite drinks and in general were so attentive. I have nothing but good words to say about this place and I’d recommend staying there to anyone coming to Takayama.
