Just 250 metres from Zenko-ji Temple, Matsuya Ryokan offers simple Japanese rooms with tatami-mat floors, a green-tea maker and an attached Western bathroom. The hotel features public baths. This ryokan offers a truly authentic experience in a fantastic location. I highly recommend booking both breakfast and dinner if possible, as it enhances the overall experience. The small public bath was also a delightful addition that we enjoyed.

Set within less than 1 km of Matsumoto Station and 4.3 km of The Japan Ukiyo-e Museum, Nunoya Ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Matsumoto. Lovely host. They were extremely welcome and were happy to help us with any questions and local recommendations. Highly recommend!

Housed in a historic building, the recently renovated Mitsubikiya features accommodation with a garden and free WiFi. The air-conditioned accommodation is 800 metres from Matsumoto Station. Fantastic guest house. Everything was excellent, from the warm welcome from the staff to the room and the exception evening meal. Everywhere is super clean and well maintained. Although all the bathroom facilities are shared, these are kept incredibly clean and have everything you need. Showers and a bath available along with plenty of towels and toiletries. Even though it was really cold out, the whole facility is kept warm and cosy so it's lovely to return to. I had an exceptional evening meal with many home cooked courses, one of the best meals I've had on my many trips to Japan. Really can't fault this guest house, just brilliant, thank you!

Situated in Nozawa Onsen, 22 km from Ryuoo Ski Park, Residence Yasushi features accommodation with a hot spring bath and a public bath. Overall amazing experience. The staff was excellent, always going above and beyond to assist you with anything you need from transportation to restaurant bookings, and always providing great recommendations. The breakfast was delicious and varied, perfect for fueling a day of skiing. The room was beautifully decorated, cozy, and full of charm. The location was ideal, with easy access to ski slopes, restaurants, bars, and you even have a convenient store right next door.

Takimi Onsen Inn that only accepts one group per day features a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 9.1 km of Otsumago and 9.3 km of Kotoku-ji Temple. Our one night at Takimi House was the highlight of our two-week trip to Japan. The hosts, a lovely couple, made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Their warmth and hospitality were truly exceptional. The food was another standout aspect of our stay. Every meal was delicious, but the miso soup was particularly incredible. It was the best we’ve ever had! Additionally, the hosts picked us up and dropped us back off at the train station in Nagiso which was incredibly helpful given the remote location of Takimi House. This extra touch made our stay even more convenient and enjoyable. Overall, Takimi House provided an unforgettable experience, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Japan.

Located in the heart of Nozawa Onsen, Tanuki offers guests a traditional accommodation with Japanese-style rooms that feature tatami (woven-straw) flooring. Great location and apartment. We booked last minute so it was heavily discounted which made it great value for money.

Offering an open-air bath and mountain view, Ryokan Warabino is set in Takayama, 12 km from Suzaka City Zoo and 24 km from Zenkoji Temple. We loved being in nature - Nagano is so beautiful and this location was a very special place to rest relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The staff are so warm and friendly and the food was incredible - you will not go hungry at this hotel! We loved the care that the staff put into each meal and every detail of the space. We also loved the Onsen experience and found the facility to be very clean and easy to use. Our rooms were very clean and spacious, comfortable and enjoyable. We loved our visit and hope to return!
