Just 250 metres from Zenko-ji Temple, Matsuya Ryokan offers simple Japanese rooms with tatami-mat floors, a green-tea maker and an attached Western bathroom. The hotel features public baths. This was one of the best accommodations in Japan, super clean, extremely good location, welcoming and traditional as it gets.

Set within less than 1 km of Matsumoto Station and 4.3 km of The Japan Ukiyo-e Museum, Nunoya Ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Matsumoto. Wonderful facility and location. Very gracious staff.

Housed in a historic building, the recently renovated Mitsubikiya features accommodation with a garden and free WiFi. The air-conditioned accommodation is 800 metres from Matsumoto Station. Great ryokan, comfortable for our family of 4. Remember to make reservation for dinner!

Our host was super nice and friendly, our family had a utmost warm welcome and introduction of the house. Delighted to see a historical house so well taken care of and the cuisine was just exceptional. To keep it short, I just wish to have stay one more night!

Situated in Nozawa Onsen, 22 km from Ryuoo Ski Park, Residence Yasushi features accommodation with a hot spring bath and a public bath. This was our most enjoyable stay in Japan, and the competition was high. Location was good, the staff were very helpful and welcoming, the property was immaculate, and the facilities were impressive. The room was incredible and super cozy and we loved retiring there at the end of the day. We also thoroughly enjoyed the onsen which I understand is one of the few in a Nozawaonsen Ryokan filled with naturally heated mineral water. We highly recommend and will be returning, hopefully.

Takimi Onsen Inn that only accepts one group per day features a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 9.1 km of Otsumago and 9.3 km of Kotoku-ji Temple. The property is right in the nature, next to a river/waterfall. Beautiful and serene, the outdoor onsen is overlooking to river and autumn color leaves. The best view one can have. The owner picked us up in the station and sent us back to our hiking starting point the next day. He prepared sumptuous dinner and breakfast for us. We feel like visiting an old friend.

Located in the heart of Nozawa Onsen, Tanuki offers guests a traditional accommodation with Japanese-style rooms that feature tatami (woven-straw) flooring. Great location and apartment. We booked last minute so it was heavily discounted which made it great value for money.

Offering an open-air bath and mountain view, Ryokan Warabino is set in Takayama, 12 km from Suzaka City Zoo and 24 km from Zenkoji Temple. Amazing stay! The people were so kind and the food was great. The room was authentic and very clean and traditional Japanese. Great experience!

Berg Marukaneya is located in Nozawa Onsen, 2 km from Lake Hokuryuko. The ryokan is a 3-minute walk from the nearest ski field and has a ski pass sales point. Guests can enjoy a meal at the... We booked this accommodation during our ski trip in December, the ski bus station is situated nearby, the accommodation has a special deposit room for the equipment, and across the street, there is a ski rental shop. Everything is situated nearby. I recommend getting dinner in this place, portions are huge, various foods, and most importantly very tasty.
