Located in the sacred Koyasan area, Saizenin offers simple accommodation surrounded by mountains and many temples. It was my most extraordinery accomocation in Japan. We spent here 2 nights in the 2 room family suite with own bathroom. We used the small onsen on the groundfoor as well. (The tattoos was not problem there.) The vegan breakfasts and dinners were very delicious (even my son said, that it was great. 😀) The staff can speak quite good in english. The morning ceremony is a must, you can feel the peace in your heart. We took a walk in the sourrounding temples, cementary and in the mountains. This place is like an other world. I wish if all the world would be the same. Thank you for all!

A 1000 year-old Buddhist temple, Shukubo Koya-san Eko-in offers Japanese-style accommodation, a beautiful garden and free WiFi. The temple and grounds are stunningly beautiful. The room was the nicest I've had on this trip - comfortable and beautiful. The temple is cold but the heaters in the bedrooms made it very comfortable. The meals were delicious - again some of my best on my entire trip. They were very generous in sharing information about their religion and culture, and inviting tourists to participate in activities that helped us to better understand the life and routine at Ekoin. I appreciated the booklet in the room that explained how to navigate different things (e.g. the meditation, the morning service) so that I better understood. It was a special experience and was grateful for the opportunity to visit here.

Featuring 3-star accommodation, 高野山 宿坊 大明王院 -Koyasan Shukubo Daimyououin- is set in Koyasan, 45 km from Matsushita Park and 47 km from Subaru Hall. Silence and temple atmosphere. And food was just great :) Unforgetable experience.

Offering a garden and garden view, 高野山 宿坊 龍泉院 -Koyasan Shukubo Ryusenin- is set in Koyasan, 45 km from Matsushita Park and 47 km from Kii Fudoki No Oka Museum of Archaeology and Folklore. Amazing place to stay. The morning prayer was definitely a highlight. Loved all of it. The temple is beautiful, with amazing gardens. The room was also very nice, spacious and well equipped. Staff was very kind. Dinner was served in a private dining room, the food was very nice (but if you cant eat Japanese food definitely bring something to eat as you cant buy anything at the temple). The onsen was modern and clean, men and women are separated. Thank you very much, would definitely recommend!

Situated in Koyasan in the Wakayama region, 宿坊 光明院 features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to a hot tub. Dinner had so many vegan dishes and they were delicious. Breakfast was smaller but still filling. It won't be a western breakfast. The futon ended up being comfy and warm but the halls were cold in the morning. I suggest arriving at the start of check in to take full advantage of everything there is (enjoying the pond, onsen, tea in room while reading the info on ceremonies). Location was great for the big 3 sites, if you don't mind walk 20 minutes in either direction.

Set in Shirahama, within 200 metres of Shirahama Beach and 1.2 km of Ezura Beach, Shirahama no Yado Daigo offers free WiFi throughout the property. Exceptional location - close to the beach, restaurants and supermarket. The staff was very friendly and helpful, went above and beyond to cater to our needs. The breakfast was freshly made daily and varied during our stay. Can not recommend this location enough.

Situated in Koyasan and only 39 km from Kishi Station, 高野山 真田坊 蓮華定院 -Koyasan Sanadabo Rengejoin- features accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. Wonderful experience and perfect facilities. A 6 star shrine

Located just 12 km from Hosshinmon Oji Shrine, Minshuku Sumiya features accommodation in Tanabe with access to an open-air bath, a bar, as well as a housekeeping service. Offering a garden and garden view, 高野山 宿坊 不動院 -Koyasan Shukubo Fudoin- is located in Koyasan, 45 km from Matsushita Park and 47 km from Subaru Hall. We were very well received in the temple, with staff very polite and eager. The meals were perfect. The location was great to see koyasan by walking. Regarding koyasan, the temple and spirituality, it's is a must go.

Hotel Kirinosato Takahara features outdoor and indoor hot spring baths, only a 2-minute walk from the World Heritage Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes. Wonderful location ambience and so welcoming. Outstanding all round.
