Located in the sacred Koyasan area, Saizenin offers simple accommodation surrounded by mountains and many temples. I’m not sure if I can sum up the experience in a few words but here we go: if you are looking to live an authentic experience at Koyasan, Saizenin is without a doubt the best place to do so. For starters, the monks and staff were so friendly and helpful, explaining each step or indication carefully. The person at the front desk spoke amazing English and even German! The rooms are so comfortable and big for Japan size of course. Ours overlooked a small garden and the entrance. One of the things I loved the most was the location, right in front of the temple complex. The food was delicious and had us saying “wow” with each bite. Also, don’t pass on the opportunity to bathe in the classic onsen, so clean and so worth it! I would come back a million times and I would recommend it to everyone I know.

Excellent location, close to Okunoin Temple and Cemetery. Room were clean and warm as it was freezing outside. Breakfast and Dinner were delicious. You could participate in the ceremonies conducted by the temple monks. The night tour was also informative.

Featuring 3-star accommodation, 高野山 宿坊 大明王院 -Koyasan Shukubo Daimyououin- is set in Koyasan, 45 km from Matsushita Park and 47 km from Subaru Hall. Everything! The atmosphere, the staff, the facilities and food! The food was incredibly delicious! The atmosphere is tranquil, and the staff is really kind as well!

Offering a garden and garden view, 高野山 宿坊 龍泉院 -Koyasan Shukubo Ryusenin- is set in Koyasan, 45 km from Matsushita Park and 47 km from Kii Fudoki No Oka Museum of Archaeology and Folklore. This temple really feels magical. The monks were very welcoming and professional. I liked how the temple is not commercial at all, and feels like a very local experience. The rooms are big and comfortable. As a solo female traveller I overall felt safe. The meals (dinner and breakfast) are typical Japanese vegetarian courses, served in very beautiful rooms. The service in the early morning was very interesting and insightful. I appreciated that there were both Japanese visitors and foreign visitors and the monks gave us an explanation in English.

Set in Shirahama, within 200 metres of Shirahama Beach and 1.2 km of Ezura Beach, Shirahama no Yado Daigo offers free WiFi throughout the property. The hostess (who's also the owner) was a very nice and friendly person. Breakfast was complimentary and the hostess even made breakfast by herself to guests every morning and it was delicious! The room is equipped with tatami floor and was super clean. There was no bed but instead futon was provided and you need to set it up by yourself at night which was interesting. It was a special experience to get a chance to sleep in a Japanese futon. If you don't know how to set it up they will help you too. The bathroom is big and equipments were new. The hotel is within 5 minutes walk to the beach. It's also close to a bus stop which takes you to surrounding sightseeing places. There are convenient store and supermarket within walking distance and you can buy fireworks there to play at the beach at night. If we come back to Shirahama in the future we will choose to stay here again.

Situated in Koyasan and only 39 km from Kishi Station, 高野山 真田坊 蓮華定院 -Koyasan Sanadabo Rengejoin- features accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. The staff really help me a lot. Everything is super good, see u next time. I will ve back.

Located just 12 km from Hosshinmon Oji Shrine, Minshuku Sumiya features accommodation in Tanabe with access to an open-air bath, a bar, as well as a housekeeping service. The manager is very charming and caring. He is a musician and the dining room has excellent speakers manifesting love for music and being together. This is a place to feel at home at. Excellent food and charm. Free laundry and a private onsen was extra bonus. The magical river is just outside. Float with the stream, sweat in a pool you digged yourself and exchange btw cool and warm!

An unforgettable experience at a lovely guesthouse attached to a Buddhist temple. The accommodations were very spacious and the location both convenient and lovely. The vegan feasts for dinner and breakfast were amazing. Koyasan is not to be missed!

Hotel Kirinosato Takahara features outdoor and indoor hot spring baths, only a 2-minute walk from the World Heritage Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes. Fabulous dinner, I left before breakfast, but the lunch box they provided was excellent to fuel me as I walked the Kumano Kodo. Spectacular location and views. Can’t recommend it enough!!!
