It was true, quaint and traditionally Japanese ryokan experience. Upon check in we were greeted with tea and sweets, as well as a full overview provided by our hosts. It was very informative and made us feel right at home! The location was also great - right next to many frequented bus stops

Located in the sacred Koyasan area, Saizenin offers simple accommodation surrounded by mountains and many temples. The lodge looked amazing and the staff was very friendly.

Ryokan Sumiya Kihoan offers a hot spring bath and a hot tub, as well as air-conditioned accommodation in Kameoka, 13 km from Keirin-ji Temple. This 4-star ryokan offers a lift and free shuttle... Traditional Japanese Breakfast was great, a lot of vegetables. Location easy to get to by train and shuttle bus was easy to find.

Set within less than 1 km of Sanjusangen-do Temple and 2 km of TKP Garden City Kyoto, Vegan Minshuku Sanbiki Neko offers rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Kyoto. The breakfast was incredible, and the rooms have a modern Japanese style that feels cosy, futons were really comfy and we really appreciated having a small balcony in the room too. Staying here was like a little home away from home, and we loved meeting all the cats 🐈 They also have great restaurant recommendations if you’re looking for vegan/veggy options in the city. Craig and Helene are just the nicest people, we would 100% stay here again!

Set in Koyasan and only 39 km from Kishi Station, 高野山 宿坊 大明王院 -Koyasan Shukubo Daimyououin- offers accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. When we arrived, they welcomed us with tea and a small sweet, which was lovely. Our room was large and looked out to the garden, which was gorgeous. We went in November and the autumnal colours in the garden and the town were absolutely beautiful. In the morning we had the privilege to attend the prayer and we received a blessing. After breakfast it started to snow, so we spent an hour watching the garden slowly turn white, it was magical. The communal toilets were clean and the communal bath was small but comfortable. Because the town is up in the mountains, and the building is all wood and paper walls it was very cold in the corridors, but we had heating in the room and nice thick covers for the night. A highlight of the stay were the dinner and the breakfast. All vegan food, very tasty even for us, who are not vegan or vegetarian. It is very conveniently located to visit Okunoin cemetery, we took part in a night tour, something that we highly recommend. All in all it was a magical stay and I would highly recommend it.

Offering a garden and garden view, 高野山 宿坊 龍泉院 -Koyasan Shukubo Ryusenin- is set in Koyasan, 45 km from Matsushita Park and 47 km from Kii Fudoki No Oka Museum of Archaeology and Folklore. Everything. The temple is very peaceful, beautiful, the room was exactly what I was expecting. Such a great experience. Would come back to stay more days for sure. The monks are very kind and helpful. Love it
