Located in Mantanani Island, GreenHouse Lodge provides accommodation with access to a garden. The property boasts reusable plastic materials, using energy-saving lighting and conserving rainwater. We had a fantastic time on Mantanani Island. Superb location, right on the beach, no other hotels in the area. We were spoiled by Fred's wife (owner) who is in charge of the food. As vegetarians, we could not find a better place! No other restaurants in the area tough. Kayaks and snorkeling gear available, which we recommend. Nice walk to the nearby village too. Swimming in the sea here is very nice, no strong currents. Transfer is well arranged. Pick up (early!) in your hotel in KK, boat is waiting to bring you to the island and visa versa.

With a terrace and barbecue facilities, Borneo Jungle Adventure is situated in Kinabatangan and features free WiFi. There is a fully equipped private bathroom with shower and free toiletries. I would give a score 20 if I could :) I found this place a bit by coincidence and I honestly could not have made a better choice for my stay at the Kinabatangan river. The lodge is near to the river and I felt relaxed and at ease from the first moment I arrived. The rooms have just been renovated and are good value for money. Don’t expect luxury - you are in the midst of the jungle after all - but they are really decent, clean and far better quality than previous jungle accommodations I had in other places. All the meals are included and you will get plenty of delicious fingerlicking homecooked food. I was welcomed with the greatest hospitality by Linda. She is such a lovely and passionate person and cares a whole lot about the lodge and her guests. She will absolutely go the extra mile to be sure that her guests have the greatest experience. I also met the owner of the place who is a very kind and respectful man. I loved the fact that this is a very warm and personalised experience where you get to know a few other people without ending up in a big group. As for the wildlife we saw plenty of beautiful birds, lots of proboscis (and other) monkeys, even orangutans and a mesmerising experience with elephants coming up close to the lodge. It was absolutely phenomenal and I can most certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to visit a bit of the jungle in Borneo.

Set atop a 100 metre hill overlooking the Kinabatangan Forest Reserve, The Last Frontier Boutique Resort is located in Bilit, and is located a 2 hour drive from the beautiful Sandakan. Everything was great, we loved our stay and didn’t want to leave at all! We were picked up by our gracious host who told us a lot about Borneo. After ascending the 600 step stairs, the view from the restaurant was amazing. Furthermore we saw a lot of wildlife on the boat trips!

The lodge is so lovely with an amazing view surround the lodge together with the cool, fresh air Our family room was a decent one but the facilities, cleanliness & service provided are topnotch!

Set in Sepilok, Borneo Sepilok Rainforest Resort offers accommodation with a year-round outdoor pool and a bar. A buffet, à la carte or American breakfast is available every morning at the property. The staff was very friendly and helpful!

Situated in Ranau in the Sabah region, D' Limbai Cottage features accommodation with free private parking. A terrace is available for guests to use at the lodge. Amazingly friendly and helpful host! Stunning view at mount Kinabalu. Big appartment. Clean.

Located in Kundasang in the Sabah region, Nulu View Cabin provides accommodation with free private parking. The staffs is very friendly and helpful. I also considering to stay at this property again for my next visit to Kundasang. The Mt Kinabalu views from my room is spectacular.

Situated in Sandakan in the Sabah region, Kinabatangan Wildlife Lodge features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking. We loved the staff! They are very kind, helpful and extremely friendly. We were curious about their culture and they were willing to explain everything about it! We went several times on the cruise to be able to see as much wildlife as possible, and every time was as exciting as the first one!! We also had the pleasure to experience batik painting, which was a bit challenging but unique. Moreover, we enjoyed exploring gomantong cave! We ate at the lodge for our entire stay and we were very pleased with the menu and the fresh cooked, healthy food they offered us. Our stay was amazing and you need to try it!

But if you want your mind to chill, they just let you be. No small talk, no pretended kindness, no hustle. Perfection.
