Experiencing Biwako Hanakaido felt like experiencing proper Japanese traditions/customs. It felt like a privilege. It's a truly rare and amazing experience that isn't easy to come by. I highly recommend spending a night or a few here.

Hitoiki har sauna og gratis privat parkering og ligger mindre end 14 km fra Hikone Slot og 8,6 km fra Maibara Station. Our room was wonderful. The amenities were thoughtful and high quality. The host was extremely friendly and treated us to a tour of beautiful Nagahama.

Marumo Ryokan ligger 46 km fra Sanzen-in-templet og tilbyder 1-stjernet indkvartering i Takashima samt have. Gæsterne kan benytte det offentlige bad. Staff were exceptional and breakfast was authentic Japanese experience.

Honmachi Juku ligger i Hikone, mindre end 1 km fra Hikone Slot og 7,2 km fra Maibara Station. Der tilbydes indkvartering med have og gratis wi-fi samt gratis privat parkering for gæster i bil. The homemade Japanese breakfasts were phenomenal and a very good value. Almost unbelievable. Each day was different, with a healthy balance of vegetables, proteins, and carbs (rice). Authentic, and served by a wonderful woman.

Hotel Yuzanso ligger kun 5 minutters kørsel fra JR Ogoto Onsen Station med den gratis transport. Great get away to relax and unwind. Hot springs, private and public were fantastic. Only reserved breakfast and the food was excellent. Room was very large looking out to lake Biwa. Hotel staff were very helpful and informative. The free shuttle to and from the hotel was also a plus.

Biwako Ryokusuitei offers Japanese-style/Western rooms with Lake Biwako views, a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi. It is a wonderful and relaxing environment and allows you to enjoy the best onsen experience. The hotel staff organised the shuttle bus for us even though it passed 6pm to ensure we made it to our dinner reservation. The food provided was 10/10, possibly one of the best meals we had in Japan ! And I forgot an item when I left the hotel, the staff just mailed it to my next hotel within the next day. Will definitely come back!

Tobaya Ryokan ligger omkring en fredelig japansk have og tilbyder traditionelle værelser med aircondition, LCD-tv og fælles bad. Very traditional feel, hosts gave a lot of space but were readily available when required. Hikone is a lovely area to cycle. I cycled to the next town Taga with the free bicycle (believe you may need to book early if it's peak season) and stopped at Patisserie violet. The hamburg restaurant nearby was superb. For omi beef Ikkyu (mid range price) was delicious. Breakfast is recommended!

16 km from Enryaku-ji Temple, Yumotokan offers a recently renovated 4-star accommodation in the Ogoto Onsen district of Otsu. Onsens were awesome. Kaiseki dinners were ok. Room was huge by Japan standards.

Ebisusou ligger i Takashima, 39 km fra Ruriko-in-templet, 41 km fra Enryaku-ji-templet og 42 km fra bjerget Hiei. The place is a little bit odd yes, but it’s a wonderful example of a traditional Japanese hospitality (even if the building doesn’t look traditional… but 70s) the hot bath was one of the best I ever had in Japan and the food was incredible. And I paid only 8250 yen for a half course stay (1 person). And the owner did his best to explain everything (with a digital language translator).
