Moana
It was the best stay during our travel to the West Coast. The hotel is not far away from the beach. The building and rooms were very nice and clean. Staff was amazing. They were extremely helpful and friendly. We we able to move to a more spacious room with an additional bed. All meals that we ordered were amazing. Even my very fussy child enjoyed the food. Everybody was extremely friendly and willing to help. All my crazy food requests were accepted. All three of us were very sad to leave and we are sure to be back next summer.
We had a magical stay at Wild Weka. The location superseded all our expectations. The site of this property is unimaginable with unsurpassed views of the ocean and the peace and quiet uncanny. The trip to get to the property is so enchanting and travelling north from here is jaw dropping. Wish we could have stayed longer. The house is beautifully designed within the landscape and as a guest you will want for nothing. What a credit this house is for tourism in the West Coast of New Zealand. Thank you for an unforgettable stay.
The best location in the coolest little town on the West coast of New Zealand. What a great oceanfront cabin setting with a nice deck and a kitchenette. The staff were friendly, and the property had goats, sheep, and alpacas right there - adorable. It's a 4 minute walk across the street to see the glow worm dell at night. And my husband thought it was the best bed we had on our entire trip. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The value for the price is unbeatable.
Wonderful, eccentric and historic hotel. The place is amazing for its collections of antiquities and memorabilia - there is not a spare space in the place ! The location is ideal for stopping off while driving between the West Coast and Christchurch. The facilities were good, the room (room 7) was very comfortable, there is a sauna and massage chair in the guest lounge and billiards in the bar. We had a lovely dinner in front of the fire.
Karamea
A clean, spacious unit with beautiful rural view. An excellent location for exploring the Karamea area. Allison was very welcoming on arrival and offered some helpful information on the surrounding area. We enjoyed our dinner at the local Karamea Village Hotel. We had an excellent breakfast at Vinnie's Cafe - great coffee! Thanks for having us to stay in this stunning part of the West Coast.
Hokitika
What a fabulous place! The hosts were friendly but not intrusive. The apartment itself was cosy and warm for our winter stay and more spacious than I expected. It have everything you need for a short stay. It was spotlessly clean too. I noticed other guests have commented on the stairs being steep but they aren't that bad. It's a great base for all of your West Coast adventures.
Franz Josef
This was one of the nicest rooms we encountered on our visit. Easy access to Franz Josef glacier area. Beautiful drive on West Coast road to Haast Pass and on to Wanaka. Great facility. A Hostel, but with very nice private rooms. Great central living room with big kitchen. Coffee and cereal and bread provided. Very close to sound really nice restaurants and a pay laundromat.
Greymouth
Liked our spacious, clean & well-appointed 2-bedroom apartment so much we extended our stay by an additional night. Perfect place to explore the West Coast from Westport & Cape Foulwind down past Hokitika, Whataroa, Okarito & the Glaciers. Short walk out to the wild & wonderful Tasman Sea beach where we started & ended each day…truly heaven on earth!
Greymouth
The hospitality was amazing! I stayed during the low season and was upgraded to a single room. The hostel owner was very friendly and was always there to share places to visit around the area and his stories. Could totally feel his passion for the place and the west coast :D Loved the West Coast and Duke hostel and would recommend to anyone coming to this area!
The rooms are some of the nicest I've stayed in New Zealand at this price point and actually I've stayed in worse rooms for much higher price points than this. Perfect for pre or post Heaphy track walking right along the road that leads out to Kahurangi National Park. The restaurant is one of the nicest we experienced on the West Coast as well.
The location was great. West Coast people are straight talkers and when you get your head around that the stay is enjoyable. The pub is right on site. There perhaps aren't the same airs and graces of a large city hotel, but in my view this adds to the experience. The rooms were in line with other pub style accommodation I have stayed at.
Haast
Nice little hostel for a one night stay on the way to the west coast. Had a nice chill area with lots of plants that was nice to have a drink in the evening and play some of the board games. It was quiet the night we were there so the hostess gave us a 6 bed dorm to ourselves (3 of us staying) which was really appreciated.
Great spot to stop on way from West Coast through to Wanaka. The hotel is good value for the middle of World Heritage Area. It is not 5 star and that's not expected. Staff are all lovely, helpful and our receptionis also served us at the bar later with a smile 😃
Great friendly welcome and super location with units clean and comfortable. Well equipped and parking outside door . Units warm and close to hotel for meals . Our go to motel when we are touring the West Coast. Also able to do our laundry which was a bonus .
I know Hokitika and I have stayed there many times before. ( over a period of 20 years ) There is no better place to stay in Hokitika for sure, no doubt coming back again! cheers and thank you again, Rick Daamen New Zealand , West Coast local Karamea
Greymouth
Arrived early cold and wet after another wet ride up the west coast on my motorcycle. Manager let me check in early and put the Sauna on for me to warm up in. Had a lovely relaxing afternoon off the bike. Fabulous hostel my 3rd time staying here now.
Kumara
Location in a small town. Quite with the feeling of no one looking in while also being in the middle of the town. The beds were comfortable and warm, with the cooler weather of the west coast. The common areas are nice with a large kitchen area.
Great location and walkable to everything you’d need in Reefton. Also handy to other travel destinations on the west coast. This is a fairy basic hotel however it was clean and tidy and the hotel itself does nice meals at good prices.
Greymouth
This is a hidden gem along the west coast of New Zealand. The rooms were cozy and spacious, and the owners were extremely friendly and helpful. We only wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed a dinner with everyone!
Haast
Very beautiful spot on West coast of South Island. Beaches were deserted and fantastic. Nightime skies a treat with star gazing. Hotel owner was gracious and helpful. Room was good, quiet, clean.
