Hotel in Nozawa Onsen
Just a 4-minute walk from the main gondola station in Nozawa Onsen, Elizabeth is a cozy privately owned accommodations with a beautiful garden. We stayed in this lovely hotel for 4 nights and it was really a GREAT one. First of all, starting from the beginning, the hotel staff were considerate and caring. We are a family of four including two kids. When we made the reservation three months ago, all rooms for four persons in the hotel were full. In view of the peak season and the difficulties in finding accommodation for large family, they allowed us to stay in their room for three persons. During our stay, the staff were nice and friendly, not to mention informative. The room was clean and tidy, and they even prepared amenities for use in public baths. Last but not least, we discovered that we lost our car key upon check-out. All the staff there were very helpful in helping us call the police, restaurant, car rental company… We had a happy ending as we finally found the key inside our luggage. Their assistance was really appreciated!!!

Nozawa Onsen
Altitude Nozawa is your average Nagano ski resort hotel with all the essentials intact. what has made our stay utterly enjoyable was the company of hotel staff. Our sincere gratitude to Jack, Kleber and Nobu san who went out of their ways to help us sort out the ski gear, picking us up and dropping us off to the slopes, bus terminals and restaurant outings. Paul, upon sudden notice of my diet, made me a mushroom omelette for breakfast, it was absolutely delicious. Such a lovely team, undoubtedly due to the leadership skills of Jack.
Nagano
There are a total of seven of us traveling by car in the Nagano and Nagaoka areas, and this is the only hotel that can accommodate 7 people. The host is very friendly and tried to communicate with us in slow Japanese and simple English. The room is big and clean, the air-conditioning facilities and bedding are also very comfortable. But be aware that there is only shared washrooms, and because of the covid, the onsen closes before 7:30, which means it will be difficult for you to take a shower after 7:30 (2022/08/05).
Suwa
Hamanoyu feels like an old grand dame from another era. The staff do their best to keep up the quality and they do a good job. My room was small and cute. The sauna and hot spring facilities were well-maintained and felt comfortable and relaxing. I only got breakfast, but it was more than adequate. I feel that not enough. People are visiting that part of Nagano these days, and that tourism is suffering, which is ironic because much of the rest of Japan appears to be booming. I hope, I can do my small part to help get the word out.
Hotel is around 15-20 min walk from Nagano Station... there is, we found out after we arrived(!), a free shuttle bus! The accommodation was good - big room, comfortable beds etc. Nothing actually wrong but just felt a bit dated and in need of a bit of TLC!! It's very much a business hotel rather than a tourist one I would say - lots of conferences/meetings etc happening whilst we were there. Value for money was excellent and I would recommend if you are in town for a couple of days.
Nagano
The property was immaculate, and the hosts were exceptionally kind and welcoming. We gained valuable insights into Japanese culture through our interactions with them. The traditional Japanese tatami room was very comfortable and had ample space for our luggage. It’s about 15 mins away from the main Nagano hustle and bustle but we had a car and didn’t mind a little bit of distance. It was nice and quiet. It was still accessible to supermarkets, pharmacy, restaurants and Uniqlo!
This was an awesome base for exploring Nagano area! Super close to the train and bus (easy walk to both), plenty of nearby restaurants and convenience stores. The highlight was the free bike rentals, which are available first come first serve, for 3 hours per person per day. The receptionist did not speak English but was very patient with Google translate and generous with an extra pillow. Hotel was quiet and clean. Beds were firm, but our room was far bigger than in Tokyo!
Yamanouchi
The three onsens were great, so fun just having a quick spa whenever you felt like it day or night! Very flexible with food preferences/dietary requirements they are able to cater to anyone Yudanaka town was pretty quiet in spring, not much going on but very relaxing nonetheless The rooms were very clean and so spacious The scenery around this part of Japan is way more beautiful than I had expected Easy to get here - one 45 min train from nagano station
I stayed for a night on my way to Shiga Kogen. Hotel is perfectly located right across Nagano station, you see it the moment you exit the station. Which was excellent after a long day of travel. Super convenient to check out the next morning and just cross the road for the bus. Hotel was clean and staff were friendly and welcoming, and the hotel provides some thoughtful amenities are provided at the lobby. There is a 711 right next door.
Nagano
Our room, the shared toilets, and shared baths were exceptionally clean. Our hosts were incredibly responsive and helpful and made us feel like family - despite a language barrier (we know very little Japanese). The location was perfect for exploring Nagano and the surrounding areas and was close to restaurants and shopping. The ryokan experience was a really great part of our family's trip to Japan.
Matsumoto
Amazing room with great views over the Japanese Alps. The top-floor room had its own private outdoor onsen which was fantastic - hot and relaxing. Our plan had dinner and breakfast included. The dinner was very good, all based on local-Nagano prefecture produce, though maybe they tried a little too hard with some of the dishes. Breakfast excellent, fresh bakery, homemade sausages, fresh salads and soups.
Great location. Its a 5 min walk away from Nagano station. It was good for taking a quick trip to Zenkoji Temple in the morning, which is 16 mins away by bus. Hotel room was on the small end for a double room, but we didn't mind. The staff was very polite and helpful when helping international tourists check in. The free breakfast was tasty and filling. Check out was very fast.
Nagano
Everything about my stay was great - from the beautiful traditional Japanese house, delicious feast carefully prepared by the owners, warm and cozy room with a spectacular view of Nagano mountains, to the surrounding nature, snow, and calming atmosphere. Oshi-san (the owner) is the kindest and most welcoming person you can imagine - can't recommend this stay enough!
Nagano
Comfy and clean bed ’pod’ and shared bathroom facilities. Nice bar downstairs, the beers are really good though a bit pricey. The staff are super-nice and put up with my terrible Japanese 🤣 the location is perfect for Nagano station (10 mins walk max) and then it's a straight walk to the temples through the main shopping streets. I'd definitely stay again.
Yamanouchi
Very friendly hosts. They speak very little English, but they did their best to make my stay comfortable. There is onsen public bath which is nice to relax after day of walking. I was even offered a free ride to snow monkey park! Hotel is a few minutes walk from Yudanaka station, which is very convenient if you want to visit monkey park or go to Nagano.
Is my second time staying at Dormy Inn Nagano and it still maintains its standard. Hotel is near station. Onsen is nice and peaceful place after whole day’s activities. Lobby provides free beverages all day. Staff are professional to help me forward my luggage to another hotel. Highly recommend anyone to stay here when visiting Nagano.
Nagano
Honestly best hostel iv been to in Japan. The owner set with us to plan our stay in Nagano and give us recommendations accordingly to our interest- this was so sweet and considerate. Plus its super close to the temple- so we didnt have to wake up that early to see the 6am service. Dont miss the little Wagashi shop next to the hostel.
Small hotel very close to ski lift. Very nice and very hot onsen (hot bath). Traditional breakfast included, but no coffee. Ski room and storage in basement. 2 restaurants in same building, and lots more within walking distance, also close to bus station for bus to Nagano and small convenience store. Friendly and helpful staff.
Yamanouchi
Wonderful Ryokan to stay in. The staff are so welcoming and accommodating. The onsen was awesome. The food was delicious and a great taste of traditional Japanese food and food famous in the local Nagano prefecture. The rooms were spacious and they make up the futon for you. The shuttle bus to the Monkey park was so helpful.
The location is perfect for skiing: the slopes (including rental office) is a less than 2 minute walk down the road. There is a rental shop in the building, but it only has beginner gear: advanced gear can be found an 8-minute walk down the road. The bus stop is also close by, both for the local bus and the bus to Nagano.
Room is clean and location is near Nagano Station. Hotel staff turned the heater on before we checked in, so it was great to have a toasty room when the outside temp is cold. Level 9 has extra pillows and massage chair. Also, there is water dispenser, so we can fill up the water before going out.
