This 17th-century Elizabethan inn has a peaceful location in the Troutbeck Valley, with weaving footpaths that link the nearby ancient hamlets. A wonderful pub and hotel with the most attentive staff. Everything is done with attention to detail and they’ve managed to combine old charm with modern comfort. The location is great for both walking the hills but also walking into Ambleside when you don’t want something too exhausting. We were planning on going somewhere else for dinner but ended up eating at the hotel every night - because there’s really nothing that makes you want to leave!
