Main Dining Room "The Fujiya" serves French cuisine in an elegant space. Restaurant Cascade offers Western dishes, while Kikka-so serves traditional Japanese kaiseki dinners. A bar, lounge and bakery are available. This century-old hotel is so well maintained and upgraded to meet with modern expectation all the time, e.g. multi-type and USB-C charger, washlet toilet seat, UCC's coffee machine with green tea capsules, etc. I went there some 40+ years ago with my parents and all of us were very impressed with the Japanese garden at their backyard. Recently it is even more beautiful with the sakura blossoming both on the main hotel and on the Kikka-So side. You can even enjoy the main garden from your room from Forest Wing. The hotel's night scene with all the lighting are also very beautiful. Japanese breakfast at Kikka-So was so impressive both all the elegant setting and the food.

We were set up to have a relaxing time. The meals alone were worth the booking cost. I look forward to returning.

The staff was extremely kind and helpful. I was able to arrive early and leave my bags, same during check out. I also loved the traditional tatami experience with the futon bed, the onsen, and the yukata were amazing.
A delightful ryokan - authentic and very cozy. Kimono, decoration, tatami, futon and onsen - everything is perfect. A few steps away from the H bus stop that will take you anywhere you want to go.
For us it was the perfect stay in a Japanese ryokan - spacious room with tatami and a low table and comfortable floor-low chairs, very comfortable (and large) futons, house yukata and jacket, relaxing onsen bath every evening … and an overwhelming variety of delicious food for dinner and breakfast, some of which was cooked on little stoves on the table. For us it was the perfect choice for a very clean ryokan with very friendly and attentive staff.
It was our first time staying at a Ryokan and it exceeded our expectations the room was traditional japanese room with tatami and at the upper level we had our futons. The onsen bath was refreshing and calming. The food was so delicous and well portioned and locally sourced. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer.
Staff were polite and helpful, are English competent. Loved the traditional dinner and breakfast and the experience of wearing yukatas everywhere, traditional Japanese public bathing facilities, the outdoor onsen after dinner where you can gaze up at the stars before falling asleep on futons in a tatami room. We had fantastic view of the mountains from our window. Quiet location.
I've appreciated the traditional style of the place; I wanted to experience staying one night in a ryokan. The futon, the tatami and the typical furniture of the room, everything was there. The onsen was also pleasant. My best memory is the kindness of the secund man who helped me whenever needed, the efforts he made to communicate with me to provide me with all information.
The ryokan is centrally located in Ueno and convenient for the University of Tokyo. It's a ryokan, so you get a low futon and tatami mats on the floor. They also provide you with a yukata to wear indoors. The owners are lovely, and arranged a late check-in for me without any difficulty. It is excellent value for the price.
Amazing facilities. You get to experience a lot as you get complementary yukatas and access to an amazing onsen. The rooms are very well furnished and the tatami mats and futons are a must experience
The traditional Ryokan was what we searched for and we were happy to receive the full experience with yukata's and futons. We had a personal toilet for the room (not in the room itself but we expected a shared one) And we were lucky with the onsens as we could use them both times by ourselves. The food was delicious and a good introduction to traditional Japanese food
A very traditional Japanese inn (ryokan). The outdoor hot spring (onsen) is fabulous. The food quality in the restaurant is very high at this price range. The staff is very friendly and they can speak English well.
