Shokinkan is set in Yasugi, 27 km from Lake Shinji, 29 km from Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum, and 25 km from Mizuki Shigeru Museum. Very very nice typical Japanese ryokan remotely located next to a temple : amazing setting! The dinners and breakfasts were outstanding. The first dinner was fully veggie (pilgrim requirement perhaps) and delicious, then they asked us if we eat fish and meat, then had also fish and meat dishes. The ryokan-keepers were so kind and helpful to help us locate the place. Because, it is very remote and GPS coordinates not that accurate.

Set within less than 1 km of Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo and a 12-minute walk of Izumo-Taisha Grand Shrine, NIPPONIA Izumo Taisha Shrine Town offers rooms with air conditioning and a private... There were so quiet and peaceful and the staff was so kind.

Enclosed in the scenic woods of west Shimane, Ryokan Nushiya is a 250-year old traditional house established in the Edo period, placed in the middle of a 10,000 square metre private garden. This was our fourth trip to Japan and we've stayed in many ryokans. This is one of our favorites. The space we stayed at was huge. It was a two-story stand alone building. The seats looked out onto the courtyard with a pond and a lot of trees, which was very peaceful. I'm usually not the type to stay in my hotel/ryokan all day, but this place tempted me to do so due to the serenity of the courtyard. There were two private onsen that were easy to access due to the small number of guests that stay here. The food was fabulous. While walking around one morning I found a hiking trail that led up to castle ruins. The next morning I hiked up to the ruins and down the other side and came out near the Moss Land.

Hoshi Ryokan offers simple Japanese-style accommodations with a flat-screen TV. Wonderful stay in a wonderful town. Keiko and family are great hosts.

Ohashikan is a 5-minute drive from JR Matsue Station and a 15-minute walk from Matsue-jo Castle. It offers Japanese-style accommodation with 2 indoor baths, free parking and free Wi-Fi access. Wonderful staff and beautiful, clean room.

Featuring free WiFi throughout the property, Onsen Guest House Aobato no Su offers accommodation in Matsue, a few steps from Tamatsukuri Onsen. Free private parking is available on site. Amazing. There was free shuttle to the nearest JR station. We didn't book the shuttle beforehand but we were able to take it anyway. The breakfast was amazing and the location is very good. Very close to the bus stop which we had to take because JR operations were suspended due to heavy rain. Value was so good.

Featuring sea views, Mihokan offers accommodation with a garden, a terrace and a bar, around 11 km from Mizuki Shigeru Road. So close to the fishing harbour, the room I was assigned was facing it and it was a wonderful view to wake up to every morning there. The room is clean, the futon is very comfortable!

5.4 km from Lake Shinji in Matsue, Hotel Gyokusen features accommodation with access to a sauna, hot spring bath and public bath. This was a luxurious treat and we all enjoyed it from the welcome by the general manager, the hot spring bath, the food, the room. One of our group had a massage which was very good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was an amazing buffet of Japanese and Western dishes. The hotel provided transport by shuttle bus to and from the hotel. Communications via booking.com worked well.

Counting an almost 200-year history, Fukumakan features Japanese-style rooms and freestanding cottages, some overlooking Miho Bay. Beautiful setting, so clean, comfortable and spacious, staff were so friendly and helpful, we had the best time!

Featuring free Wi-Fi, Noren Yado Meigetsu is a traditional Japanese building. Set in Tsuwano and surrounded by hills, it offers a Japanese garden and massages. Amazing place. Highly recommend
