Enclosed in the scenic woods of west Shimane, Ryokan Nushiya is a 250-year old traditional house established in the Edo period, placed in the middle of a 10,000 square metre private garden. This was our fourth trip to Japan and we've stayed in many ryokans. This is one of our favorites. The space we stayed at was huge. It was a two-story stand alone building. The seats looked out onto the courtyard with a pond and a lot of trees, which was very peaceful. I'm usually not the type to stay in my hotel/ryokan all day, but this place tempted me to do so due to the serenity of the courtyard. There were two private onsen that were easy to access due to the small number of guests that stay here. The food was fabulous. While walking around one morning I found a hiking trail that led up to castle ruins. The next morning I hiked up to the ruins and down the other side and came out near the Moss Land.

Hoshi Ryokan offers simple Japanese-style accommodations with a flat-screen TV. Wonderful stay in a wonderful town. Keiko and family are great hosts.

Ohashikan is a 5-minute drive from JR Matsue Station and a 15-minute walk from Matsue-jo Castle. It offers Japanese-style accommodation with 2 indoor baths, free parking and free Wi-Fi access. Wonderful staff and beautiful, clean room.

Featuring free WiFi throughout the property, Onsen Guest House Aobato no Su offers accommodation in Matsue, a few steps from Tamatsukuri Onsen. Free private parking is available on site. Kindly owner and staffs! Especially a wonderful show offered by owner! Really a surprise! Good onsen, Everything is clean, here you can have a really japan style experience.

So close to the fishing harbour, the room I was assigned was facing it and it was a wonderful view to wake up to every morning there. The room is clean, the futon is very comfortable!

This was a luxurious treat and we all enjoyed it from the welcome by the general manager, the hot spring bath, the food, the room. One of our group had a massage which was very good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was an amazing buffet of Japanese and Western dishes. The hotel provided transport by shuttle bus to and from the hotel. Communications via booking.com worked well.

Counting an almost 200-year history, Fukumakan features Japanese-style rooms and freestanding cottages, some overlooking Miho Bay. Beautiful setting, so clean, comfortable and spacious, staff were so friendly and helpful, we had the best time!

Featuring free Wi-Fi, Noren Yado Meigetsu is a traditional Japanese building. Set in Tsuwano and surrounded by hills, it offers a Japanese garden and massages. Breakfast was fantastic,( traditional Japanese). The Onsen was beautiful.
