A beautiful traditional style Ryokan, so clean, comfortable and beautiful. The staff were incredible, especially Miki at the front desk, she did everything to assist us and beyond. Also Hoshino san, also helped us with additional requests with the shuttle as the township was very busy - we are VERY grateful for your help and friendliness.

Featuring 10 uniquely designed hot spring baths, Shosenkaku Kagetsu provides Japanese-style accommodation just a 5-minute walk from JR Echigo Yuzawa Train Station. The facilities are great! It’s just a few minutes walk from the station, the staff is super attentive, the food is delicious and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Totally worth it!

Set in peaceful landscapes, Kogakuro offers pleasant Japanese-style rooms with plenty of natural light. It features indoor and outdoor hot springs, a library and a cosy lounge with a fireplace. Amazing host, Mieko-san made the stay feel so special with her warmth, helpful demeanor and cheery greetings. Location was great for Akakura Onsen runs, food restaurants were nearby. Breakfast eggs and pancakes were standout items. Room was big and comfortable.

Ryounkaku Matsunoyama onsen, a property with a shared lounge, is set in Tokamachi, 38 km from Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort, 36 km from Maiko Snow Resort, as well as 47 km from Lake Hokuryuko. The staff were fabulous. Couldn’t do enough to make your stay wonderful and comfortable.

Boasting an open-air bath and views of mountain, Sake Hotel Tamakiya is a recently renovated ryokan situated in Tokamachi, 38 km from Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort. breakfast was excellent, it didn't seem much at first but once you started, the flavor of the different vegetables accompanied by the selected rice was incredible. Also loved the sake pairing of our French dinner.

Rankeisou provides a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 33 km of Yukyuzan Park and 33 km of Yukyuzan Small Animal Zoo. A perfect Onsen in a lush Forrest next to the Sumon river. The different Onsen with public and private ones are fantastic, all of them with outside bath. The rooms are nicely designed and renovated with balcony and all needed amenities. The food (Kaiseki) is delicious, the host is very helpful (in English if required).

Kutsurogian offers a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 17 km of Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort and 40 km of Naeba Ski Resort. Amazing stay, so peaceful and clean. Staff were wonderful and gave us lots of unique experiences (like the sparklers!). They went above and beyond to accommodate us, which we really appreciated. Food was delicious and the onsens were gorgeous.

Set within 12 km of Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort and 35 km of Naeba Ski Resort, Satoyama Jujo THE HOUSE provides rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Minami Uonuma. Had the most incredible stay at Satoyama Jujo. My wife and I were visiting Japan and in search of a nature retreat from Tokyo for a few nights, and this resort exceeded our expectations in so many ways. The room was quiet and serene, the baths had stunning views of the surrounding mountains, and the food was impeccable. The service was so thoughtful as well; on our last day we were snowed in and couldn't get back to Tokyo, but the hotel made sure we could extend our reservation one night and offered a complimentary taxi to the train station the next day. Hope to be back again one day!

Set in Murakami, Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Shiomiso provides accommodation with a sauna, a hot spring bath and a public bath. There is an in-house restaurant and free private parking. Wonderful facility, very well maintained. Great views of the Japan sea from the huge lounge. Wonderful and helpful staff - if you don't speak Japanese, no problem. the staff speaks some English, communicates thru translation apps and clear gestures. fantastic room with an ocean view! lovely onsen. I was stunned by the huge variety of foods at dinner and breakfast buffets. We don't have this in the US. If I had I known how great the whole experience would be, I would have booked an extra night.
