Kamaishi
Hamabeno Ryouriyado Houraikan provides a hot tub and a public bath, as well as air-conditioned accommodation in Kamaishi, 1.3 km from Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium. This 3-star ryokan offers a 24-hour front desk and a lift. There is a restaurant serving Asian cuisine, and free private parking is available. Houraikan will always have a very special place in my heart because of the proprietress Akiko-san and her team. I was touched by their story of how they overcame the tsunami, and by their genuine warmth and kindness. Having been to many ryokans, I am familiar with the high standards of service but Houraikan went above and beyond. Their greetings and smiles are more than politeness but genuine warmth and earnestness, which you can feel. Akiko-san went out of her way to take photos for me as I was a solo traveller. She also brought me around Kamaishi, proudly introducing attractions along the way, giving me recommendations and even accompanying me to the tourist centre to get a town map, and then to the museum where she asked that the museum staff take good care of me. When a fire alarm rang in the middle of the night on one night, Akiko-san was so apologetic for disturbing my rest and even though I reassured her that it was alright, she waived the cost of my sake and the usual bath tax as a sincere apology. She also gave me extra snacks and a bandana as a farewell gift. All the staff at Houraikan are warm, friendly and very thoughtful. For example, once I wanted to use the washing machine but it was being used. One of the staff later went out of his way to knock on my room door to let me know that the washing machine had become available for my use. Furthermore, it was lovely to bathe in the lovely open-air wood bath with such a pleasant smell and to soak in the onsen water while listening to the sound of the majestic ocean as it is so close to the shore. The futon is also something special - they have got the most comfy blanket, futon and pillow. I pray for more people to discover the beauty of Houraikan - it is not just the surrounding ocean that is beautiful, it is more than anything the heart of the people at Houraikan that makes it special!

Very easy to find, they even hung a plate with my name on the door. I could basically use the entire second floor. The owner took me by car to a dinner place, the hot springs and to the train station. Very kind! Breakfast was very generous as well.
Very good service and infrastructure! The hotel had a great onsen with sauna etc. Really good! The room was nice and correct for this category! The people were super friendly and helpful! I would really recommend this hotel
Very friendly staff, nice onsen on-site. Clean room, we only stayed one night, they also offer lots for breakfast.
Great price-quality relationship. The hotel is well equipped, the staff was very polite and helpful even if they did not speak English, and the location is handy as there are several restaurants and supermarkets nearby. It was nice to have the onsen, which is large enough for the amount of people we have seen.
This Dormy Inn is more than the basic business hotel. You have the usual clean (for one person in even quite spacious) room, but on top of that there is so much more. You have the rooftop onsen, after which you get an ice cream, and there are free ramen if you feel like a midnight snack.
Five star service in a five star ryokan. Worth the price. Free yukata with different sizes and design available for guests. Very peaceful ryokan. Wish we could stay longer to explore the surrounding nature. Kaiseki dinner and breakfast was amazing. Staff was so attentive to our requests and took the time asking about our dietary requirements. Massage chairs available for guests to use. Loved the Indoor and outdoor public bath. Highly recommended for those who wants a luxury ryokan experience.
Small Ryokan. Well located near the sea. Excellent food. Nice room and wonderful Onsen on the roof with a sea-view. on the evening, we listened to the Lady owner telling us her own story surviving the 2011 tsunami and helping dozen of people the following days. Her story was really emotional and she is a true heroine. I am glad we met her and I am very happy to spend one night in this hotel to help local economy.
Everything. The host was very friendly and warm welcome. Large room, classic japanese, and comfortable beds (Tatami plus futon, what more do you need?). Close to sightseeing spots. Excellent chef, breakfast was majestic. I wish could have stayed longer. Feel like family, suitable for those who miss their hometown lol
Traditional style accommodation, gives you the chance to sleep in a futon on the tatami, wear a yukata, and utilise shared bathroom facility, or sento. It is worth the experience 😊 it's reasonably close to Hiraizumi station (about 10 minutes walk) and the host very kindly tried to accomodate for my vegan requirements for breakfast. Bathroom and toilets were clean.
Central location, 7 minutes walk from the station. really good value for the $$$ - staff was extremely helpful, we had alll the amenities in the room (yukata, toiletries, slippers). There is a washing room and a really nice onsen! Hotel provides free noodles and ice cream!
