Houraikan will always have a very special place in my heart because of the proprietress Akiko-san and her team. I was touched by their story of how they overcame the tsunami, and by their genuine warmth and kindness. Having been to many ryokans, I am familiar with the high standards of service but Houraikan went above and beyond. Their greetings and smiles are more than politeness but genuine warmth and earnestness, which you can feel. Akiko-san went out of her way to take photos for me as I was a solo traveller. She also brought me around Kamaishi, proudly introducing attractions along the way, giving me recommendations and even accompanying me to the tourist centre to get a town map, and then to the museum where she asked that the museum staff take good care of me. When a fire alarm rang in the middle of the night on one night, Akiko-san was so apologetic for disturbing my rest and even though I reassured her that it was alright, she waived the cost of my sake and the usual bath tax as a sincere apology. She also gave me extra snacks and a bandana as a farewell gift. All the staff at Houraikan are warm, friendly and very thoughtful. For example, once I wanted to use the washing machine but it was being used. One of the staff later went out of his way to knock on my room door to let me know that the washing machine had become available for my use. Furthermore, it was lovely to bathe in the lovely open-air wood bath with such a pleasant smell and to soak in the onsen water while listening to the sound of the majestic ocean as it is so close to the shore. The futon is also something special - they have got the most comfy blanket, futon and pillow. I pray for more people to discover the beauty of Houraikan - it is not just the surrounding ocean that is beautiful, it is more than anything the heart of the people at Houraikan that makes it special!

Shikitei Morioka TsunagiOnsen asub Moriokas, 14 km kaugusel Morioka jaamast. Kohapeal on kuumaveeallikate, avalike vannide ja vabaõhuvannidega majutusruumid. The included meals were beyond our expectations. The staff went out of their way to accommodate our dietary requirements and properly communicate them with us. We had a room with our own private open air bath which was very easy to use and adjust. All the amenities were very clean and easy to access as well.

Nagisatei Taroan asub Miyakos ning pakub ainult täiskasvanutele mõeldud majutust koos vabaõhuvanni ja ühise puhkeruumiga. Exquisit in every aspect. Exceptionally fine food.

Kuumaveeallika ja saunaga Kashoen asub Hanamakis, 29 km kaugusel Moriokast. Külalised saavad nautida kohapealset baari. Kohapeal on tasuta eraparkla. Tubades on lameekraaniga televiisor. Service. We were wow-ed by the service right at the moment we parked our car, a staff immediately came to gather our luggages, and then escort us to our rooms after check-in. The room was big beyond our expectation. Onsen leaves a smooth feeling skin.

Apikogen Mori no Hotel asub Hachimantais, 46 km kaugusel Morioka jaamast. Külalised saavad kasutada avalikku sauna ja vabaõhuvanni. Kolmetärnihotellis on spaa, saun ja kuumaveeallikate vann. Breakfast and dinner are so good. Shuttle bus service is great. Hot bath is excellent.

Välibasseini ja mäevaatega Kyukamura Iwate-Amiharionsen asub Shizukuishis, 32 km kaugusel Morioka jaamast ja 15 km kaugusel Koiwai talust. Everything was brilliant. Fantastic value for money. Great food, awesome Onsens. It's very traditional though. Beds are Futon style and there are no showers in the rooms. You have to shower in the Onsen.

Hachimantai Resort Hotel & Spa asub Hachimantais. Kohapeal on laste mänguväljak ja kuumaveeallikate vann. Kohapeal on tasuta eraparkla. Igas toas on lameekraaniga televiisor. Amazing room and great location. We had the pleasure to try sulfur onsen and it was really great. Such a nice relaxing time in this hotel.

Iris Yu asub Hiraizumis, vähem kui 1 km kaugusel Motsuji templist, 2,2 km kaugusel Chuson-ji templist ja 5,6 km kaugusel Takkoku Seikou-ji templist. Selles kahetärnihotellis on pakihoid. very nice ryokan, beautiful room and easy to reach from the station. we had also breakfast, it was a good homemade traditional Japanese breakfast. strongly suggested

Restoraniga Aeria Tohno asub Tōnos, 39 km kaugusel Kamaishi jaamast ja 40 km kaugusel Kitakami jaamast. Konditsioneeriga majutusasutus on 42 km kaugusel Kamaishi Recovery Memorial staadionist. Nice place. Quiet, clean, comfortable. Great people. I bow respectfully for their friendliness. And a special thanks for the evening folk stories.

Mäevaatega Jodogahama Park Hotel asub Miyakos, 600 meetri kaugusel Jodogahama rannast ja 49 km kaugusel Kamaishi taastumise memoriaalstaadionist. Beautiful property with a stunning view of the coastline. We took a tranquil walk along the beach in the early morning, and came back to an amazing breakfast spread. The facilities were also well enjoyed by most in my group. Highly recommend this property for anyone who’s looking to stay in this area and enjoy the coast.
