Absolute attention to every detail. We travelled from Kyoto all the way to Shikitei because we hoped it would be a memorable experience in a traditional Ryokan. It did not disappoint. Every staff member was extremely helpful, the food was outstanding, the room was spotless and our private open air onsen was to die for. They were also very accommodating for our one year old son, providing toys, baby yukata, and a variety of meals. Shikitei was the highlight of our 17 day trip to Japan.

Set just 49 km from Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium, Jodogahama Park Hotel offers accommodation in Miyako with access to a bar, a shared lounge, as well as a lift. Park Hotel is clearly a high end hotel catering to the sufficiently affluent, with good class facilities, service and food. We were treated well even tho we had hiked for 6 hours in the snow and looked like a trio of disheveled backpackers. The staff took extra effort to explain things in English to us, even introducing the local breakfast delicacies so we knew what we were eating.
