The friendly, welcoming and respectful staff; the atmospheric furnishings and decorations; the lovely slippers and kimonos; the bathing suites and the gorgeous rooms. The Japanese breakfast was standout.

Situated 1.6 km from Takayama Station, Iroriyado Hidaya is a recently renovated 4-star accommodation in Takayama, boasting a garden, a shared lounge and private parking. The staff of Iroriyado Hidaya was exceptionally friendly and helpful, also with regard to our kids; their genuine kindness and hospitality is a memory we will treasure. Using the traditional clothing and onsen was also a one of a kind experience. With our rental car the ryokan was a good exploration base for the surrounding area. And there is a really good authentic restaurant around the corner. If we got a chance in the future we would definitely come again!

Offering a shared lounge and quiet street view, Toraya 和モダンホテル is set in Gero, 48 km from Takayama Station and 49 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The room is new and clean. great value for the room.

Offering a garden and garden view, Nagataki is located in Nakatsugawa, 10 km from Toson Memorial Museum and 10 km from Magome Wakihonjin Museum. This accommodation is 400 years old and managed by the 15th generation now. The history is very special. Even the formal emperor staid at this accommodation. You can really experience the authentic Japanese life. Food was delicious, the best food we had in Japan untill now. We hear that the chef build his cooking skills at a Michelin star restaurant and that is what you see and taste at the food. When we arrived we were (as both having back problems) worried about the traditions futon beds, but this was no problem at all! Nice to do from here is the Nakasendo walk from Magome to Tsumago. The hotel helped us with a useful map and arrange a transfer for us to the starting point.

Featuring free WiFi throughout the property, Shiroyamakan offers accommodation in Shirakawa, 1.4 km from Shirakawago. Free private parking is available on site. The entire property is non-smoking. It’s really beautiful, very close from the express bus station (which I expect how most of the tourists access Shirakawa-go), the owners are super nice and wholesome, and serves a great meal plus super relaxing hot spring. I absolutely enjoyed my two days stay and made my first time ever trip to Shirakawa-go even more special. I strongly recommend to take the meals served (both dinner and breakfast) because they not only taste lovely but also very healthy! I will definitely revisit here if I come around Gifu-ken!

Situated in a tranquil area in Gifu Region, a 52-minute drive away from JR Takayama Station, Mozumo boasts a hot-spring bath and rooms decorated with modern Japanese interior. We loved the subtile and tasteful architecture of the place. Everything was beautiful in its simplicity. The private onsen was fantastic especially with the forest in the background. Everything was so quiet, peaceful and relaxing. The staff was so kind and provided a perfect service. Food was excellent.

Founded in 1860, Juhachiro is located along Nagara River and boasts indoor and outdoor natural hot spring baths. The property is a 15-minute bus ride from Gifu Train Station. The staff was amazing and very kind!

Fantastic stay! The dinner and breakfast is delicious, and is a must for staying at a ryokan. Another great thing is that there is a family/semi-private onsen for you to enjoy.
