Low Etherley
We wanted an autumn break base to visit Durham for the Luminere. The Stables was well situated for this and for exploring Bishop Auckland only a few miles away. The apartment was warm and comfortable with the best bed of any holiday let l've stayed in! Bishop Auckland has plenty of eateries. Our favourite cafes were Fifteas and Breaking Bread. All the galleries in the Auckland project are worth a visit. Very varied, well presented and not too big! I would certainly recommend the Stables to anyone that can manage the spiral staircase.
We loved our stay! The location is perfect, right next to the main road, making it a convenient stop on our journey from York to Edinburgh. It was also an ideal spot for visiting Durham Cathedral the next morning. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and we appreciated the Costa coffee and meal options available on-site. Additionally, there’s a McDonald's and other food options right next to the hotel, as it's part of a service area. The room was excellent for the price—newly renovated and modern. Overall, a great stay!
Durham
Hotel is a grand old manor house and seems to have been recently refurbished. It's located out of town so you definitely need a car but was only around 15 minutes from Durham city, so it worked out well. Some lovely walks around the hotel - turn left when you leave and just past the lovely old Pittington Church are some public footpaths across the fields. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, the continental breakfast was pretty good too. Rooms were fine, nice strong shower with easily controlled temperature.
Close to Durham City centre and all the outskirts retail parks. Rooms were clean, well maintained and quiet. Good shower and Elemis shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and hand wash provided in dispensers. Spa in the next building was a bonus. The £25 Spa Day Pass is discounted to £10 per stay per guest if purchased at the Hotel Reception. Facilities include pool, sauna, steam, jacuzzi and changing rooms equipped with lockers, great showers and swimsuit wringers and ‘proper’ hairdryers.
Durham
Very welcoming at reception, found room to be clean, spacious and double bed very comfortable. Main road runs past our room and we didn't have any noise disturbance and had a great nights sleep. I enjoy leaving the car at home and this hotel is on a bus route between Durham and Bishop Auckland. The X21 bus goes through Durham to Chester le Street and Newcastle. Would have liked to dine at the adjoining Indian Restaurant but didn't get the opportunity on this occasion.
Durham
Lovely clean apartment that was well stocked with everything you need. It was on a bus route into Durham, there was a pub that sold decent food at reasonable prices two minutes walk away and a mini Morrisons The owner was friendly and helpful. We found it to be in good condition and comfortable, but the owners are doing a refurbishment of the windows and bathroom, which will make it even better. Thank you for a lovely comfortable stay Giles and we'll hopefully see you again
We enjoyed an amazing stay at the Marriott Hotel in Durham. The hotel is worthy of its high reputation, and we could not fault anything during our stay. The weekday staff were most welcoming, and housekeeping staff very obliging. Having a bar fridge in the bedroom was extremely helpful, and we were fortunate in having a marvelous view over the river. The location was exceptional, being a short walk from the centre of the town and the Cathedral. Thankyou.
Adele and Geoff are the perfect hosts, having restored, renovated and enhanced this impressive 19th century manor house. A perfect base for visits to Durham and the heritage North East Coast. We had an enormous ensuite room with a magnificent sea view. Adele even suggested places of interest for our journey home. We would have no hesitation in recommending the White House Hotel.
Durham
The Avenue was easy to find and the staff were great. Unfortunately we were too late for an evening meal but the breakfast was really good. There was a good quality tea and coffee selection in the room with biscuits. The room size was ok with twin beds. We were visiting Durham and the location was great, with the buses running past the hotel.
Durham
Cosy house in a very quiet location with the perfect silence for the best sleep. The room had a fridge with butter and marmalade prepared for breakfast, and plenty of space for your drinks. Generous amount of towels offered. Martin, the owner, is very friendly and helpful. Less than 10 minutes drive to Durham centre.
The room was good, clean and had all the facilities we required. The breakfast was superb, both the fully cooked choice and the continental offering. Everything was fresh and freshly cooked. The location of the hotel was central for our visits within Durham - university, river, shopping, famous sites.
