The location might not be ideal if you are not travelling by car but the bus stop is near by so it’s doable. There are also various activities for children which was very nice.

We visited Gruyeres in September 2015 and stayed at "La Fleur de Lys" hotel where we had dinner on the first night outside on the terrace overlooking the comings and goings of the main street. Gruyeres is an amazing little medieval town in the Swiss canton of Fribourg and definitely worth staying overnight. During the day it is very busy with busloads of visitors but at night once everyone had departed, it was quiet and relaxing. The castle is a great place to wander around as is the HR Giger museum. The Giger Bar Restaurant is amazing and totally unique - we had a lovely dinner there on our second night. Only locals can drive their cars inside the town - visitors and tour buses park in the carparks outside the entrance to the town. There are lots of walks around the town and beautiful views over the surrounding countryside from the town walls. We walked down to La Maison du Gruyere and took a tour through the cheese factory - really interesting watching the cheese making process. We also drove up to the base of Moleson sur Gruyeres and went up to the top on the funicular and cable car. The views were amazing. Another place worthwhile visiting is Maison Cailler in nearby Broc where the most amazing chocolate is made - a tour of the factory is very interesting and the chocolate tasting on the way is not to be missed.
