Really nice hostel, loved the common area to chat with people. Kitchen and dining area is big enough, room and bed really spacious with personal lighting and space for chargers etc

Based by the Lake offers basic dormitory-style rooms or private guest bedrooms with ensuite facilities. All of the accommodation is clean and modern and linen is included.
Location was close to the lake, the food, the supermarket, everything.
Amenities (kitchen and laundry) were clean and well thought out.
Enjoyed the girls only dorm with the extra perk of a private balcony.
Great location walking distance to town centre , easy to find. Safe location Welcome addition of electric blankets and smart TV. Bedroom was very clean
This is the best hostel I have been so far. I can see the passion of the host. He loves bringing people together and he does not want to rip you of which I realy appreciate.
Great location. Best shower we’ve ever had. Great temperature and pressure. Coffee for a plunger and real milk. Warm room. Secure locking if rooms so we felt safe.

Finlay Jack's Backpackers is one of my favourite hostels ever. The common areas, such as the inner courtyard garden, are very inviting and adapted to facilitate socialising and getting to know your fellow travellers. A very nice detail is that already upon your arrival your name is hand-written on a little blackboard next to your bed, which makes you feel even more welcome and which makes the contact with your room mates easier. The staff are friendly and helpful, for example to book some activity in Taupo.
Great courtyard set-up which felt safe with a relaxed vibe.Everything seemed to work and staff were very helpful. Grateful for a discount with my Scottish Youth Hostel card.
Really like the privacy of curtains on the bunk beds and how sturdy they were. Also the convenience of a plug in each bunk for charging devices safely. lockable cupboards for possessions were good. The hostel had a welcoming and friendly vibe and good for socialising but not too loud late in the night too, so a great balance as a solo traveller. Facilities clean and tidy, cleaned well every morning.

The best hostel kitchen we've seen - really big space with enough hobs, pots and pans etc for multiple people to cook at once. Lots of fridge space. Very Clean. Lots of fridge space. Great views. Well heated bedroom. Easy check in. Parking on site (although pretty crammed and we did get blocked in by another car). Great location near the centre of town.
