It is a fine and detail-oriented Japanese ryokan, I had a great stay here. The host/staff is wonderful! I would definitely re-visit Matsumoto and Hanare for a longer stay.

This hostel was very comfortable to stay. Comfortable matresses and nice curtains for privacy. The amenities were great too, a good washing machine and squeaky clean kitchen and bathroom. The place is been renovated a few years ago but still looks great. The part I loved most is the contact with Chris the owner, who is very nice to talk to and give tips about the region. Thanks a lot !

Set within 44 km of Nagano Station and 45 km of Zenkoji Temple in Hakuba, Hakuba Matata Lodge features accommodation with seating area. Teri is a wonderful host. The breakfast was very good. A very cosy and personal way to stay.

Guest house Minna no Ie, a property with a shared lounge, is situated in Achi, 3.4 km from Achi Shrine, 5 km from Achi Shrine Okumiya, as well as 5.8 km from Ichiban Shimizu. Truly the best guest house experience I’ve every had. You can tell the owner really cares about the guests. You have everything you need from the shower to a comfy bed. I felt at home right away here. She even helped me figure out what I was going to do for my second day in the area! Truly amazing.

Shioriya offers accommodation in Nagano, 11 km from Zenkoji Temple. Popular points of interest around the property include Togakushi Shrine and Old Kawanakajima Battlefield. The hosts are very kind and welcoming, they gave us information on the top attractions of the area and made our stay comfortable. We managed to communicate in English.

Featuring mountain views, Azumino Backpackers provides accommodation with free bikes, a garden and barbecue facilities, around 29 km from Matsumoto Station. Host were nice and offered to pick us up when we were late for check in

Situated within 32 km of Jigokudani Monkey Park and 41 km of Suzaka City Zoo, Shinazawa features rooms with air conditioning and a shared bathroom in Nozawa Onsen. A lovely, clean, and simple pension with tatami/futons and the added bonus of toilets in each room, which many pensions don't have (they have shared toilets). However, the bath is shared and is not in the room, which is no problem! Plus nearby local free public onsens are wonderful. It's run by a very nice family, has a good location near bus stops plus is a short walk from the Karasawa lift (can ski from there to main areas and back). Breakfast was very tasty with a lot of variety and a mix of Japanese and Western options. Reasonably priced-- I would stay there again!

Tabi-shiro is located in Matsumoto, 2.7 km from The Japan Ukiyo-e Museum. Guests can enjoy the on-site bar. The rooms have a shared bathroom. Tabi-shiro features free WiFi . Such a lovely, cosy hostel with ample common area to chat with other travellers. They have a little bar area and the hostel owner was so nice to also introduce travellers to each other, it was so nice meeting and talking to everyone, including the friendly staff. I also used the common area to do some quiet work in the morning while they cleaned - they didn't seem to mind, though they had to clean, which was really sweet of them.

Offering views of the mountain, Koya Backpackers is located in Karuizawa, 5 km from Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza. Free private parking is available on site. Rooms have a shared bathroom. Great host who gave us tips for our stay and looked after us like we were old friends. Convenient location, immaculately clean and great meals on offer.

Anzuan Nishida offers accommodation in Ueda. Pallcall Tsumagoi Ski Resort is 36 km away. Free WiFi is featured throughout the property and free private parking is available on site. Nishida-San is so friendly, kind, and patient - he did do much for us! The house is beautiful and serene and we were so thankful for our time there.
