Offering Japanese-style rooms with river views and an en suite bath, Takao Kanko Hotel is 600 metres from Jingo-ji Temple. This ryokan is situated in beautiful nature. We had a beautiful view of the river from our room and had dinner by the riverside on both nights. Rooms are big, cozy and very relaxing. The whole area is beautiful and we enjoyed exploring it. Food (breakfast and dinner) was amazing, best we had in Japan so far. All the staff was absolutely wonderful. They picked us up at the bus station and dropped us at the train, which made the whole trip much simpler. Everything was perfect and we are glad we included this place as a part of our honeymoon stay!

Along the Kiyotakigawa River, Momojiya Annex offers traditional rooms with a private open-air bath and forest views. It features public baths and free wired internet in public areas. If you wanna try a traditional Ryokan hotel, you gotta try it. Though it's far away from the downtown Kyoto, you can reserve free shuttle bus in advance with the hotel. The meals are delicious but what actually makes me impressive is: the fireflies. When the lights are off, you just realize there are thousands of them in the tree. It is absolutely beautiful!

A quiet traditional Japanese inn along the Kiyotakigawa River, Momojiya of Takao offers Japanese-style rooms with forest views, public baths with mountain views and free wired internet in public... Unbeatable staff who do everything to make you feel welcome and taken care of. I was sick for a couple of days while I was here, and felt so looked after! I asked them to put out a futon for me mid day so I could lie down, and they did this with no fuss and brought me a full tea service. On top of that, the private onsen really helped to improve my physical health. Our room was spacious, had great lighting, and we thought the futons were comfy! The dinner service was also magical in every way - make sure you’re hungry by 6 ;)

A 10-minute drive from Kinkaku-ji Temple, Ryokan Yamazaki offers a hot public bath and serves breakfast and traditional dinners for an additional fee. I was traveling together with a friend and she preferred to book a place a bit outside of the city. The place is still very accessible by bus (stop is almost in front of the house), or even the tram if (you don’t mind a 15 minutes walk). The staff was very kind and welcoming and you will easily get along with English, if you don’t speak Japanese. The rooms were tidy and comfortable and would also recommend to take the Japanese breakfast in the house. Cannot judge the dinner since we usually returned late and ate somewhere else. Highly recommend the ryokan!
