Wonderful walking area on the water with a British feel to it Drinks on the patio of the Empress were great, staff was very pleasant The hotel is popular for the location and the tea which we had one day. Even before I got there they were asking me to upgrade when they said I hd a city view room. We had a view of the loading dock and the beeping of the truck was the worst. The shower didn't drain but they fixed that when I asked.the carpet at the threshold to the bathroom was thin and I nicked my foot on a carpet tack :(
Loved the walkability of downtown, lots of points of interest. Great shops and very friendly people. Whale watching was amazing. Saw humpbacks and orcas. Easy to use public transit Bus went right to Butchard Gardens.
victoria was clean but they need to work on their hotels. where I stayed the washroom door lock wasn't working the tub was dirty.the whole room was dirty. they had mouse in the room, bulbs weren't working, overall bad experience in the hotel, hotel needs some cleaning to do. overall good experience but if they can work on their roads and expend them that would be great.
Worthwhile things in Victoria: The huge market at Government House on the weekend was very good - we bought some fine locally crafted gin. Beacon Hill Park has stunning access to the water, some wild places, and some beautiful gardens. The Legislature is worth a look and its grounds and surrounding office areas are beautiful, we liked the provincial coat of arms plaza beside the Leg grounds, the Royal BC Museum is being rebuilt so it is not at its best right now, but there is still a very fine display of totems outside the museum, the gardens of the Empress Hotel are gorgeous and the waterfront promenade in front of the Empress is very well done. Fisherman's wharf is definitely worth a visit as is the surrounding neighbourhood of James Bay. Victoria's bike paths keep getting better and the network keeps growing: we spent a fun 2 days on rented bikes (from the bike rental shop on Humboldt St. just behind the Express), our favourite Happy Hour place was the Bent Mast in James Bay, but there are many other water view places to choose from. The seaside walk from the BlackBall ferry terminal to Fisherman's Wharf is very fine. Fort St is full of interesting and small local shops and restaurants. We caught the free shuttle to the Malahat Skywalk which was well worth the trip. The Oak Bay suburb was charming and Gonzales Beach is a great place for kids. The mansions along Beach Ave are impressive. And Butchart Gardens is truly spectacular.
Lovely friendly city, so walkable and great access to the rest of Vancouver Island. Harbour is very pretty with lots of tours available to take. Lots of fun bars and restaurants with lots of of cuisines available, which we loved!
The fauna throughout the city is beautiful. If you enjoy historic homes, Craigdarroch Castle is a MUST see. Butchart Gardens is an amazing walk amongst the finest flower and plants collections from around the world. Check out the Monkey Puzzle tree.
