Even for Western standards. The private onsen was very nice. We did not try the public onsen. The staff were courteous and helpful. Although the staff had limited English proficiency, they all used a translation app to help with communication which was incredibly helpful.

We liked that it was a quiet and private space where we could rest without the hustle and bustle of the city. The environment and the layout of the ryokan, creates such a serene space for us. Which was exactly what we wanted. The services and the food it was exceptional. Every meal we had felt like it was so well taken care of and of such high quality. It was so healthy and delicious all at the same time. Every dish was amazing but We would never forget the beef we had there and the seaweed porridge and the many side dishes that came with them those were the highlight for us. The shuttle services were really handy for us travelling in and out of the ryokan.

It was close to the zuishinmon gate and the path up to mt Haguro. The hosts were so kind and accommodating. Traditional Japanese style stay and traditional breakfast (which was phenomenal!)

Comfortable stay, attentive and patient staff who anticipated and attended to our every need and request. Food was excellent and they accommodated my dietary restrictions and remembered them throughout my stay. Wonderful stay, highly recommend.

Localizado em Tendo of Yamagata Prefecture, o Hotel dispõe de sauna, banheira de água termal e banheira ao ar livre com vista panorâmica de uma cachoeira. The breakfast spread was good and we enjoyed our 4 mornings of good breakfast. It is Japanese style mixed with some western, there are juices, tea, coffee and desserts. The staff serving breakfast was very polite and neat. What we like best is the private room Japanese dinner which we enjoyed for the 3 nights. Very exclusive and different night, different menu. On our last night our dinner was changed from 2nd floor to the 10 floor which allow us to see the night scene of this little town. I highly recommend this for family or honey moon couple. We booked 3 rooms and requested for our rooms to be next to one another and the hotel helped us with this request. The Onsen in this Ryoken was clean and comfortable both indoor and outdoor. Walking from Tendo station to here is about 15 mins. The room is super comfortable, clean, shower and WC separated, well furnished in Japanese style. If I have a chance, will return.

O Tsukaya Ryokan é uma acomodação com uma história de mais de 300 anos. Todos os quartos possuem piso de tatame (tecido de palha). Of all the hotels and ryokans I stayed at during my two weeks traveling Japan, the night at Tsukasaya Ryokan was by far my favorite. Mrs. Shoji personally came out and greeted me at my taxi. From that moment onward, I felt as if I was receiving an experience personalized just for me. After showing me to my room, Mrs. Shoji informed me of several local attractions (parks, shrines, temples, etc.) that were lovely to visit prior to returning for dinner. Every moment of the stay felt thoughtfully crafted and authentic. The food was delicious, containing many dishes that I had never before experienced. The onsen, while small and enclosed, was at just the right temperature and left my skin feeling the best it has in years. The design of the structure was charming and authentic (as best that a foreigner like myself can judge). The staff were friendly and accommodating.
