Staying here was a fantastic experience! The situation of the house overlooking Lake Chuzenji is incredible and the owner was wonderfully hospitable. The pension is run extremely well by the lady and her team who provide a delicious traditional meal - we enjoyed this experience so much and it was a real highlight of our trip. The pension’s location was the perfect base to enjoy the beauty of the Lake Chuzenji area and the hiking and natural surroundings it offers. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anybody considering a trip to Nikko/Chuzenji. Thank you!

Situated in Nikko, 17 km from Tobu Nikko Station, KINUGAWA KEISUI features accommodation with a spa and wellness centre, free private parking, an open-air bath and a garden. I am afraid our stay at Kinugawa Keisui might have destroyed our expectations towards other hotels for the future. I can only describe it as absolutely outstanding. Beginning with the scenario location next to a forest and a small river, the huge, modern, beautiful and amazingly comfortable room, which didn‘t only feature several small welcome presents, a minibar filled with a wide (and free) variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and huge and comfortable beds, ending at the most outstanding breakfast and dinner consisting I was allowed to witness in Japan, the hotel and the amazingly kind and professional staff made our stay to be nothing but amazing. There are some many small details we could list, such as the outdoor fire place where you can read a book in a calm and relaxed atmosphere sipping your coffee, the bento boxes for travels during the day, the Onsen on your balcony for which you can adjust the temperature to your perfect needs, the entertainment system in your room should you chose to relax here, the staff which gives you privacy should you want it but helps with any need you might have, the fast and stable internet anywhere in the hotel and and and. We usually don‘t book hotels again, but we will definitely return here during our next Japan trip.

Featuring 4-star accommodation, Shelter Garden Nikko is located in Nikko, 2.1 km from Nikko Toshogu Shrine and 3.4 km from Tobu Nikko Station. I selected this place because I read other reviews about the eclectic unique nature of the hotel and atmosphere. I wasn’t disappointed, in fact it exceeded my expectations in every way. The moment you arrive and are greeted warmly by the staff and handed a free drink of your choice, sets the tone for a wonderful experience ahead. The room was huge, warm, comfortable and very special in its minute details of architecture. We chose a river view room and I would highly recommend doing so as the massive picture window overlooks the forest and mountains and is simply breathtaking in the morning sunrise. This hotel was designed with careful thought given to every detail in its creation, with the mindset of creating a restful respite from the modern busy world we live in today. It has achieved this goal in my opinion and then some. We had the honour and pleasure of meeting the architect the second day we stayed and had a conversation with him about his wonderful hotel, he is such a joy to speak with. The food was also an absolute delight, huge filling and varied items at breakfast, and sumptuous selections and pairings at dinner. The staff are The best of anywhere we have stayed so far in Japan, and are gracious and smiling all the time. We speak very limited Japanese but this was never a problem so don’t worry about this as a barrier for coming here. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back and I was sorry I had to leave. This hotel, and Nikko is such a special beautiful place everyone should see it once if they can. Thank you shelter garden and staff for allowing me to have such a warm, restful and wonderful stay at your gorgeous hotel, and thank you so much for all your warmth and hospitality.

Located in Nikko, near Kegon Falls, Chuzenji Lake and Nikko Futarasan-Jinja Nantaisan Okumiya, Hotel Hanaan features an open-air bath. The private onsen in our room was wonderful. Breakfast and dinner were exceptional. The staff was beyond helpful and considerate.

36 km from Nikko Toshogu Shrine in Nikko, Minshuku Fukufuji offers accommodation with access to a hot spring bath. Misha is the lovliest person on earth, she helped us so much as our rental car was cancelled. Place is authentic and a true Japanese experience. We wish we had more time in Fukufuji.

Set 27 km from Shirakawa Station, Nasu Onsen Sanraku offers 5-star accommodation in Nasu and has an open-air bath, free bikes and a garden. This ryokan features free private parking and a lift. A special place that gave us a unique Japanese experience. Service was beyond words. I travel quite a lot and have never seen such hospitality. Each meal was special and unbelievably beautifully presented. We’ve tasted things that didn’t know existed. We had a room with a private onsen. It’s a bit pricey, but worth it if you already made it all the way there. The room was simple but very clean and comfortable. The public onsen is also nice, especially the outdoor pool.

Situated in Nikko in the Tochigi region, with Tateiwa Kinu Hime Shrine and Kinugawa Onsen Fureai Bridge nearby, Nanaeyae features accommodation with free private parking, as well as access to a hot... The kaiseki dinners and breakfasts were clearly the highlight of the stay. They might arguably have been worth the entire cost of the stay, and make the ryokan itself a destination for a quick trip from Tokyo. The setting is beautiful, looking down over a rushing mountain river. The staff were attentive and seemed to be genuinely sweet and caring people.
