The mother and son that run the place are so kind. Each day before I set out for my hikes the proprietor handed me a bag of snacks. There is also two wonderful private onsens that were free each time I sought to use them. Lovely place.

Set in Nakagawa and only 10 km from Nakagawa Aquatic Park, Iizukatei offers accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. It was the first time we ventured out from a major metropolitan area in Japan and we are glad that we chose Iizukatei. The breakfast served in our room every morning was exceptional. The staff was super attentive and always went out of their way to help us with reservations, driving us around and arranging activities.

Everything well thought out, wonderfully helpful staff, beautiful food, great views, comfy room, glorious onsen. If I ever return to Nikko, I won’t hesitate to re-book and stay in one of their Japanese rooms again!

36 km from Nikko Toshogu Shrine in Nikko, Minshuku Fukufuji offers accommodation with access to a hot spring bath. Hospitality was beyond amazing. Absolutely worth the trip for an authentic Japanese guesthouse stay. The food was fantastic and ambiance was so enjoyable.
