Each day before I set out for my hikes the proprietor handed me a bag of snacks. There is also two wonderful private onsens that were free each time I sought to use them. Lovely place.

Desde el momento en que llegamos nos sentimos como en casa. El ambiente hogareño con vistas de ensueño al lago hace que sea un lugar idílico. Además los anfitriones son encantadores y súper atentos. La cena y el desayuno son una auténtica delicia y el baño caliente es un auténtico placer sobretodo en los días de frío y cansancio. ¡Sin duda repetiremos!

KINUGAWA KEISUI está en Nikko, a 17 km de Estación de tren Tobu Nikko, y dispone de alojamiento con jardín, parking privado gratis, salón de uso común y terraza. I am afraid our stay at Kinugawa Keisui might have destroyed our expectations towards other hotels for the future. I can only describe it as absolutely outstanding. Beginning with the scenario location next to a forest and a small river, the huge, modern, beautiful and amazingly comfortable room, which didn‘t only feature several small welcome presents, a minibar filled with a wide (and free) variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and huge and comfortable beds, ending at the most outstanding breakfast and dinner consisting I was allowed to witness in Japan, the hotel and the amazingly kind and professional staff made our stay to be nothing but amazing. There are some many small details we could list, such as the outdoor fire place where you can read a book in a calm and relaxed atmosphere sipping your coffee, the bento boxes for travels during the day, the Onsen on your balcony for which you can adjust the temperature to your perfect needs, the entertainment system in your room should you chose to relax here, the staff which gives you privacy should you want it but helps with any need you might have, the fast and stable internet anywhere in the hotel and and and. We usually don‘t book hotels again, but we will definitely return here during our next Japan trip.

Shelter Garden Nikko se encuentra en Nikko, a 2,1 km de Santuario Nikko Toshogu, y ofrece alojamiento con jardín, parking privado gratis y restaurante. I selected this place because I read other reviews about the eclectic unique nature of the hotel and atmosphere. I wasn’t disappointed, in fact it exceeded my expectations in every way. The moment you arrive and are greeted warmly by the staff and handed a free drink of your choice, sets the tone for a wonderful experience ahead. The room was huge, warm, comfortable and very special in its minute details of architecture. We chose a river view room and I would highly recommend doing so as the massive picture window overlooks the forest and mountains and is simply breathtaking in the morning sunrise. This hotel was designed with careful thought given to every detail in its creation, with the mindset of creating a restful respite from the modern busy world we live in today. It has achieved this goal in my opinion and then some. We had the honour and pleasure of meeting the architect the second day we stayed and had a conversation with him about his wonderful hotel, he is such a joy to speak with. The food was also an absolute delight, huge filling and varied items at breakfast, and sumptuous selections and pairings at dinner. The staff are The best of anywhere we have stayed so far in Japan, and are gracious and smiling all the time. We speak very limited Japanese but this was never a problem so don’t worry about this as a barrier for coming here. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back and I was sorry I had to leave. This hotel, and Nikko is such a special beautiful place everyone should see it once if they can. Thank you shelter garden and staff for allowing me to have such a warm, restful and wonderful stay at your gorgeous hotel, and thank you so much for all your warmth and hospitality.

Iizukatei está en Nakagawa, a 10 km de Parque Acuático de Nakagawa, y dispone de alojamiento con bicicletas gratis, parking privado gratis y jardín. Easily the best part of my trip was staying here. I felt like a mixture of an esteemed guest, friend and family while staying here. The hospitality and meticulous care of the staff, especially Maylene, the friendliness of the locals and the beauty of the hotel grounds and overall surrounding nature made for the perfect stay. My hotel room was like an apartment to myself and it was so clean, the beds were the most comfortable bed I’ve slept on, the floor has a heat option, there’s a mini kitchen (I didn’t get to cook anything though) and the shower was great and also has a tub for you to soak in too! They also give guests a yukata to wear! Every day I got a platter of fresh seasonal fruits and veggies sourced locally. They gave an option of a western or Japanese breakfast (I opted for the Japanese) and even how they served it and displayed it to you was meticulous. Food was delicious! They gave an option for a half day or a full day trip where staff can drive you around to different sites and experiences around the area. They have great recommendations (also make sure to read the material they provided you so you get a better idea on what you’d like to do). I did a soba making class and had a private onsen experience. The prices were fair for all the things I asked to do and see during my half day. They would also personally take me to restaurants and speak with them to help with the language barrier. It’s the countryside so the immediate town around was small but there’s still some things to sight see and eat; I spent one of my days just walking around and exploring town. I had food poisoning before coming here and I was literally nursed back to health here with the fresh food and the staff checking in on me all the time. If you’re hesitating, I’d say book this place for 1-3 nights at least. It’s a little far out but when are you ever going to stay in a historical 200 year old renovated complex in the beautiful countryside of Japan? You won’t regret it.

Hotel Hanaan se encuentra en Nikko, a 6 min a pie de Cascada Kegon, y ofrece habitaciones con vistas al lago y wifi gratis. The private onsen in our room was wonderful. Breakfast and dinner were exceptional. The staff was beyond helpful and considerate.

Minshuku Fukufuji se encuentra en Nikko, a 36 km de Santuario Nikko Toshogu y a 38 km de Estación de tren Tobu Nikko. Misha is the lovliest person on earth, she helped us so much as our rental car was cancelled. Place is authentic and a true Japanese experience. We wish we had more time in Fukufuji.

Nasu Onsen Sanraku está en Nasu, a 27 km de Estación de Shirakawa, y dispone de alojamiento con bicicletas gratis, parking privado gratis, jardín y salón de uso común. A special place that gave us a unique Japanese experience. Service was beyond words. I travel quite a lot and have never seen such hospitality. Each meal was special and unbelievably beautifully presented. We’ve tasted things that didn’t know existed. We had a room with a private onsen. It’s a bit pricey, but worth it if you already made it all the way there. The room was simple but very clean and comfortable. The public onsen is also nice, especially the outdoor pool.

Nanaeyae está muy bien situado en el barrio de Kinugawa Onsen, Nikko, a 22 km de Estación de tren de Nikko, a 25 km de Santuario Nikko Toshogu y a 41 km de Cascada Kegon. The kaiseki dinners and breakfasts were clearly the highlight of the stay. They might arguably have been worth the entire cost of the stay, and make the ryokan itself a destination for a quick trip from Tokyo. The setting is beautiful, looking down over a rushing mountain river. The staff were attentive and seemed to be genuinely sweet and caring people.
