Located in Kihokucho, 48 km from Ubuta Shrine, Kii no Matsushima features accommodation with a hot tub. Featuring free shuttle service, this property also provides guests with a picnic area. The Kii No Matsushima ryokan is a unique Japanese experience. The place is perfect for discovering the coast (the beach is 200 meters away) but especially if you want to do one of the many sections of Kumano path. The family who runs this ryokan were extremely attentive to every detail of our stay. The rooms are spacious and pleasant. The common areas are very clean, the bathrooms have a small onsen which is very pleasant at the end of the day! The highlight of the stay is the meals and breakfasts. The chef is a master of Japanese cuisine! Each dish transported us during the three nights we spent here, a treat! Local specialties are based on seafood and fish. We tasted many new flavors, always balanced and refined. We highly recommend this peaceful place, and hope to return.

Set 39 km from Kumano Hayatama Taisha, Owase Seaside View features accommodation in Owase with access to a public bath. It is located 20 km from Ubuta Shrine and offers a lift. The service was OUTSTANDING! We arrived soaked from a long hike and were given the warmest of welcomes. At every turn all the staff went over and above. located right on the water and food was terrific. Thank you all.

Offering sea views, Ise-Shima Ohtaya Healing Stay is an accommodation situated in Toba, 29 km from Ise Grand Shrine and 29 km from Oharai-machi. I really like this place. The female owner has an inquisitive mind, a warm personality, and a kind heart. Her English is good enough to communicate and ask for help. The sauna and the private onsen in the room are top-notch. I did not check the public onsen with natural hot spring, but heard it's amazing too. I booked the 5th floor with an ocean view, and the private onsen experience during starry night and the set rise were indeed amazing! The hotel itself is located in a remote little cute fish town called osatsucho, where you can find fishmen and women harvesting and selling the Ise lobsters in the morning by the port. It was a very unique and interesting experience to stay in that little town for two days during the winter when it was not crowded at all. The nearest convenience store is 10 + miles away. It was a very natural, grounding, even retreat-like experience to me, and it was drastically different from my experience in Tokyo, Nayoga, or Osaka. I did spot a few demolished houses with broken windows in the town, not sure if it's because of COVID or during the winter when there were fewer tourists. The big plus is the Shinmei shrine next door to the hotel, which is a very calming and spiritual place to visit and stay for a bit too.

Magnificent view from the window. Cuisine and service. A variety of very tasty Japanese dishes. Unique architecture. Indigenous Japanese look and feel inside and outside. A lot of spectacular places in the vicinity. MeotoIwa is within about 20 km.

Set near Futamiokitama Shrine and Matsushita Shrine, Oishiya is in Ise and offers free private parking and a restaurant. This 3-star ryokan offers a lift and luggage storage space. We LOVED the personalised service provided in traditional inns - especially by our caretaker and waitron Yasuyo Ohnishi! There can be no better location on the seashore within reach of Ise Temple Complex, located on Futiminoura Beach. They will pick you up and drop you off at the closest station and a  100m walk to the beautiful "wedded rocks (at Futamiokitama Shinto Shrine) is worth it even on a hot day! It was pouring  rain when we arrived early so the driver dropped us off a beautifully restored old traditional mansion set in a tranquil zen garden to wait for reception to open at 3pm. We only realised later it's only 3 houses away from the hotel so easily accessible bonus for Oishiya's guests ! The meals (dinner and breakfast was included) was exceptional and extensive with more than 5 courses, each one beautifully arranged in trays and in stunning pottery, served by the lovely and ever helpful  Yashyu Ohnishi in her immaculate kimono Dinner was attended in the Inn's provided kimono's which really added to the experience of Japanese culture we were looking for in a traditional Inn or Ryokan like this. The private Onsen (hot spring bath) was a great bonus for two shy westerners as was the slightly raised western beds in our beautiful tatami mat room with a view to the ocean and shoji screens (rather than curtains) to manage the light! It was by far the most pleasant and perfect stay in more than 30 years of travel internationally!

Situated within 1.2 km of Hinatahama Beach and 15 km of Ise Grand Shrine, お宿行灯鳥羽 features rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Toba. The scenery is spectacular, the food is delicious, and the staff, especially in the restaurant, are very friendly. Dinner and Breakfast are very delicious and professionally served. The environment is incredibly relaxing.

Featuring a bar, Kochoran offers rooms in Toba, 1.6 km from Mikimoto Pearl Island. With free WiFi, this 3-star ryokan offers free shuttle service. To start off, if you arrive at Toba Train Station between 1430-1800, they provide free shuttle service to the hotel, which otherwise would be a 20 minute walk. Look for their name beside their car. The staff were friendly to a fault and even if they can't keep up with English, they'd do anything to help you. The place is old, that's what you get for looking for an onsen ryokan but it's well maintained and the cuisine offered was faultless.

Offering an outdoor pool and a restaurant, Todaya is located in Toba. The property is a 3-minute walk from JR Toba station and is a convenient location from where to tour Ise-Shima. The breakfast was delicious. The food tasted very fresh. We especially appreciated that many of the food stations had attendants preparing the dishes. It got very busy at one point, but we never had an issue getting our food. The shuttle to and from Toba Station was very convenient. We contacted the staff from a payphone at Toba Station. We were able to communicate our needs through our very limited knowledge of the Japanese language. The driver took our luggage and said they would store it till we checked in. This allowed us to continue on with our sightseeing plans without physically going to the hotel first. That really helped maximize our time in Toba! Wonderful Service!

Conveniently located just a 2-minute walk from Iseshi Train Station, Hinode Ryokan is Japanese-style accommodation with a historic charm. Ise-jingu Shrine’s Geku (outer shrine) is a 5-minute walk... This is my favorite ryokan on this trip, unbeatable at the same price! A century-old hotel, a century-old building, a century-old style, clean and spacious rooms. One hundred years of experience and thoughtfulness can also be seen in the service of the clerk and the thick instructions on the table. But I didn't expect that the facilities and home appliances are very advanced, such as voice translators, handheld scanners, free washing machines and dryers in the store. The bathroom is clean, the hot spring is comfortable, and the location is next to the train station, super convenient!
