Liked it so much we stayed an extra night! Exceptional staff. They even dropped us at the train station in the morning so we could have an excursion. How this is only a 3 star hotel I will never know. Go here, you won't regret it. Amazing value

Meals were easily the most intricate and most sophisticated of all the Ryokans I've tried. They go out of their way to showcase Akita specialties, which I really appreciate as it means I need not travel to restaurants specially to try them. They provide a private dining room and I cheekily thought to myself that this is so you can lick your plate clean! Indeed it was so delicious that if the Michelin inspectors came, I am sure they will get a star. Best service out of all the ryokans I went to - everyone is super attentive and super responsive. On the booking.com app, they were the most prompt to respond to messages. They had good recommendations for me on what I could do around Lake Tazawako and the surrounding area. Other examples of exemplary service: They took the initiative to ask me if I would like a picture with my meal (as I was a solo traveller). How delightful! Out of all the ryokans I stayed in, this is the only one who did that. Another example: they asked me if they could clean my room while I am out. This is unlike other hotels and ryokans that instead ask if I would like my room cleaned (assuming that the default is no). The room was of a most excellent layout with good separation of different areas and a good size such that it makes you feel like you are living in your own apartment and not so much a resort. The bed was also very comfortable - there is something special about the bed linens. They were so refreshing to the touch and so comfortable. At every corner there are thoughtful gestures - a little bench for you to admire a view, the tatami flooring throughout. Every effort has been made to make it a special and premium experience. Even the toilet is larger than some of what I’ve seen and has charming and tasteful decorations. I am so glad I tried out Kashintei Shirahama and hope to be back!

Top-tier luxury. This place is what you get when you give someone a very generous budget and ask them to dream up the most comfortable Ryokan they can think of. The whole place was in tatami mats and it was comfortable to walk about barefoot or with socks. The baths themselves were the best out of all the ryokans that I have tried. They offered a range of different shampoos and soaps, and multiple indoor and outdoor baths - ranging from stone/natural baths to wooden tubs. There is also a sauna and cold bath, and it is here that I discovered the adrenaline rush and relaxation that comes with alternating between a hot sauna and cold bath. There are also privates baths (yes there are two!) that are free for use, unlike other ryokans that charge you for them. There are free treats everywhere - ice pops and milk (my favourite!) at the baths, various snacks and drinks (coffee, various teas, vinegar drink and even beer and shochu!). Then at 10-10.30pm, you can get a bowl of ramen, with the Akita specialty: Fish Shottsuru. Best, most premium and complete bath amenities out of all the ryokans I have visited. They also have well-placed cold water dispenser and places where you can simply sit after your bath to enjoy the view. They also offer a "pillow library" where you can personally compare different types of pillows and choose the ones that you like best! Best facilities out of all the ryokans I've been to (perhaps to make up for the lack of things to do by way of local attractions and how isolated it is). There are traditional Japanese children's games, origami and even a quaint library. Layout of the room is great too - I like that there is a separate "reception" area where you can keep your bags and clothes separate from the main sleeping/living quarters. I also like the little table in front of the window - perfect for a quiet reflection.

Aoni Sanso ligger i Senboku, 7,6 km från Nyuto onsen, och erbjuder boende med en trädgård, gratis privat parkering, en gemensam lounge och en restaurang. Nice place, nice onsen, good food! But you need a car to get to it!

Katakurinohana ligger i Senboku, 15 km från Nyuto onsen, och erbjuder utsikt över sjön. Denna ryokan med 4 stjärnor har luftkonditionerade rum med delat badrum och gratis WiFi. The location is strategic, close to Lawson and petrol station if you are driving and offer shuttle bus to train station. Public one is good, with one indoor and 2 outdoor pools with temperature around 41 degrees C for the indoor pool. And private bath is available, first come first serve, and nice lake view.

Misato Town Community Lodge Wakuasu ligger i Daisen, 11 km från Omagari station, och erbjuder boende med gratis WiFi och gratis privat parkering.

Onsen Yupopo ligger i Senboku, 33 km från Nyuto onsen, och erbjuder boende med gratis cyklar, gratis privat parkering, en trädgård och en restaurang. Excellent onsen hotel. Great amenities and the large bath is open throughout the night (3pm to 6:30am). Great breakfast.

Hotel Kazuno ligger i Kazuno, 27 km från Towadasjön, och erbjuder boende med en trädgård, gratis privat parkering, en restaurang och en bar. The Hotel is excellent, it is nearby lake Towada. It is great to have vacation during Fall.

Nishiki Onsen Kurion ligger i Senboku, 37 km från Nyuto onsen, och erbjuder boende med en trädgård, gratis privat parkering och en restaurang. I would say it's clean and cozy. Personally, I enjoy Japanese-style bedrooms, so it was good enough for me. It's also easy to get to Tazawako if you'd like to visit.

田沢湖水沢温泉郷セルリアンリゾートAoni ligger i Senboku, inom 7,9 km från Nyuto onsen och 10 km från Tazawako station, och erbjuder boende med ski-in/ski-out och gratis privat parkering för gäster som anländer med... The first thing that came to my mind was the food. Both dinner and breakfast were undeniably yummy for our liking. The place was well maintained, immaculately clean. Bedroom was spacious for the three of us. Futons were great. Staff members were helpful and able to speak English.
