Breakfast was an incredible cultural experience, and the guided tour of the townhouses and shopping street gave me a historic context of Otsu that I didn’t know. The coffee bar with snacks and daily free aperitiv was wonderful. Awesome to have an old wellpoint in the building!

Dinner was a meat lover's dream, with every course bursting with flavor and perfectly paired wines. The next morning, we indulged in a breakfast made from fresh Omi vegetables, delivered via room service so we could savor it while taking in the scenic view of Lake Biwa. And the staff were all incredibly friendly.

When I was younger, I have always put "10" on booking (if there was a bed and a shower someone nearby). Then I became older and started to value comfort, and my average rating reduced to "7". But this stay deserves 12/10. RyumaHirai (the host) was super helpful and very nice, he assisted us in everything! Check-in process was super-easy, and instructions were clear. Although the studio is not very big, there is everything you need. There is a small yard if you want to spend some time alone, and (not relevant to me) you can smoke there. If I ever come back to Otsu (which is likely, as the town is very nice) I will be happy to stay there once again.

The location is more remote (which is what I wanted) but it means a 15-20 mins walk from the station, still feasible. The grocery store in town is also far away on foot so I recommend a car or bike while staying. The owner is very kind and helpful. The area is very peaceful and beautiful, I recommend biking to Odani castle (~20 mins) for a great hike and view. 5 min train ride to Nagahama station from Torihime station, so it's very easy to explore Nagahama and see Lake Biwa for the day.

The guesthouse is located at the end of a small road right by the rice fields. It was very quiet and peaceful and I had a good night's sleep. The house is tastefully decorated and has all the amenities you would need, including a washing machine that you can use for a small cost. The host speaks good English and explained clearly about everything in the house. The room was clean and tidy, and the futon was very comfortable. I would recommend others to stay here.

It was the best place to stay in Shiga, Takashima and was the highlight of our trip in Japan. We stayed for two nights. The kindness of Fujiwara-san has constantly surprised me. He is very welcoming, attentive and helpful throughout our stay. We even received a beautiful thank you note from the host! It was a nice touch. The place is very clean and the scenery is gorgeous. It was a memorable experience for us. Will definitely come again ❤️
toothbrush towels are provided they also took the trash as resquested. free parking space. can easily communicate with the host via booking.com private message. you can cook in the kitchen but you have to buy your own gas at the convini which was just in front of the hotel. there is a local shopping street near by. near hikone castle and kurokabe square. few restaurants around the area. good base to go around shiga and kyoto area.
I travelled in a car to Shiga and booked a one night stay at this hotel. The location was very central and there was parking available for customers. I did park at a parking lot next to the hotel parking lot (as this was full) and the staff was very kind to give me vouchers for the parking which meant I ended up parking for free which was excellent. Got complimentary breakfast which was good too.
Otsu
Very clean and comfortable to stay. They provide various amenities including pajamas and moisturiser cream, that may be common in accommodations in Japan but I didn’t expect they would provide it in a capsule hotel. The staff are really friendly and helpful. They would tell you good places to visit in Shiga prefecture. The breakfast was good and definitely worth the price.
Nice location in Otsu, Shiga. The hotel owners have done a nice job updating some of the old post town homes, maintaining the external facade while fully updating the interiors in Japanese style.
Takashima
The hotel is located in a very rural part of Shiga prefecture. But it was a perfect stop for me on my cycling trip around lake Biwa.

The breakfast was the best we have eaten in Japan. It was useful have a well stocked equivalent of 7/11 on the ground floor The shuttle to the railway station is good

The view was beautiful and the open air bath was amazing, really recommend staying here, it's worth the money. We also had the half board included which was very tasty. Overall amazing stay, would love to come back.

The rooms are beautiful, the view is amazing, the staff are absolutely lovely. The private hot springs are great. This place is very charming - even magical. Experiencing Biwako Hanakaido felt like experiencing proper Japanese traditions/customs. It felt like a privilege. It's a truly rare and amazing experience that isn't easy to come by. I highly recommend spending a night or a few here.
An amazing 4-star hotel located just next to the shoreline, and all rooms have a view of the beautiful Lake Biwa. Right next to parklands and Nagahama castle, and 5 mins from the city centre and old town market street. Staff is always really helpful and polite, the room was impeccably clean, and there is also free parking. If the hotel would have been located in Europe, a room would probably have costed twice as much as it normally does at Kitabiwako Hotel Grazie, and if you travel during the rainy season or similar, you can get a room for as little as £50, which is astonishing! The hotel also got an Italian restaurant, which I can strongly recommend, because it serves proper Italian cuisine to a reasonable price; normally, when something is advertised as Italian food in Japan it is either something that would make an Italian person cry (and not of joy), or you got yourself a proper but exclusive Italian eating place in Tokyo or Osaka that serves delicious food to a very high price and only to the select few. It is rare to get something that is proper Italian in Japan and 1) outside the big cities, and 2) will not ruin you for a simple meal. You know, if you want to take a short break from all the sushi and ramen...
