Winchester is a beautiful ancient city surrounded by picturesque Hampshire countryside. It has a good mix of shops, some of which remain independent (so please support them!), traditional pubs, ancient monuments, history and beautiful walks. The people are polite and friendly so it's always a joy to walk around the city and chat to the locals.
Winchester is an awesome place to see, steeped with history with old buildings lining cobbled streets and of course Winchester Cathedral which is amazing to see. Behind the Cathedral starting in November is the Christmas Market which is free to enter and has an ice rink with many stalls from tweed hats and waistcoats to local artists in glass, wood, or paint etc to cheeses and wine, beer and spirits. The atmosphere is a buzz with Christmas Spirit, children all excited seeing the lights and toys among other delights with mulled wine and stollen, roasted mallows and chestnuts along with the german cheeses and sausages wafting the nose and tempting those taste buds and what a tasty treat they are too. The hot buttered mulled wine really won me over. Winchester is good to see at any time of year and is surrounded by the beautiful hampshire countryside....a glimpse of times past in the modern world, its great to see for a day trip or stay a few days as the surrounding areas take you to some lovely places, like Stonehenge, Monkey World, Marwell Zoo and of course The New Forest, Buckler Hards or visit Southampton for more shopping.
I have lived in aldershot for twenty years and have been here on family business . Shame there is not many local born and bought up people anymore ,felt like a foreigner in my own county of Hampshire , the town seems a little run down .
Lots of historical history. Very close to the countryside. Plenty of places to eat. St cross house, the Hampshire regiment, the cathedral
Visiting relatives very nearby. There are nicer areas in Hampshire and Surrey where we would have stayed otherwise. Both counties are lovely; lots of walks in nearby countryside and interesting small towns. Aldershot does have good Nepalese restaurants; reasonably priced. Trains run regularly.
Lyndhurst is a quaint village in Hampshire with a lot of local shops We ate in The Mad hatters tea-room. The local museum was interesting.
Hampshire is a wonderful county, especially the New Forest. A lovely day trip over to the IOW was very nice. Such a wide range of restaurants in Southampton town centre made the stay very nice. World Global Buffet is a must for eat all you can lovers out there. You won't be disappointed.
North Waltham is a lovely Hampshire village near Basingstoke but it’s not a tourist destination. It’s a cluster of homes, a village shop and a church, all lovely for those who live there and their visitors but not a tourist destination.
Nice enough place. Good supermarket but as we noticed during our tour of Kent, Sussex and Hampshire there is a new culture developing everywhere. Groups of teenagers sitting on the benches and walls smoking cannabis. This used to be happening away from the town centre but now it is rife in public areas. Maybe I'm getting old but I notice this a lot now having worked with young offenders in the past.
A very pretty town with a reasonable variety of pubs and restaurants and some lovely walks along the Test. A good location for exploring Hampshire. A good choice of town if you're looking for a laid back stay somewhere.
The Angel is in the middle of beautiful Hampshire Countryside near Alton. The hotel has plenty of simple, clean rooms with very comfortable beds and everything you need for an overnight stay - including hairdryer, iron and ironing board. The staff were all really lovely and the chef fed our large group (32) with a delicious evening carvery with a fantastic choice of desserts. About half of our group stayed overnight and our chef excelled himself by spoiling us with a delicious breakfast. We will definitely be back.
For a relaxing and wonderful experience Oakley Hall exceeded my expectations. Located in beautiful Hampshire countryside, this elegant Hotel, was relaxing but with an excellent dining experience. The Hotel team were polite and efficient, the Glasshouse restaurant has an excellent menu range, cooked to a fantastic quality. Pretty walks, and the nearby village of Overton gives you an interesting range of independent shops to browse in. I would highly recommend Oakley Hall Hotel.
The Warbrook House hotel is a hotel based in an old mansion in a quiet part of North Hampshire in the countryside near Hartney Whitney and Hook, west of the M3. The hotel has spacious grounds, is quiet, well located and comfortable with nicely decorated rooms. I had an upstairs front facing double of good size, and was warm, with en suite. Ample car parking to the side, pleasant surroundings, helpful staff and good amenities. Would use again.
Basingstoke
Apartment was excellent, very clean, well furnished and had everything we needed. Felt so comfortable and relaxed in the apartment during our stay. The location was quiet, close to shopping centre and excellent for buses to Hampshire hospital which was the main reason that we were staying there. The bus only took 10 mins to get to the hospital. Would like to say a very big thanks to Carol and Stacey who helped us immensely with all their help.
The hotel was centrally located in the town. It doesn't have a car park, but the receptionist gave us a map which explained where we could park not far away, near Waitrose. The rooms were well decorated and comfortable. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting somewhere convenient for the New Forest and that part of Hampshire.
From the welcome to the breakfast, and every detail in between, our stay was quite incredible. The attention to detail shown by the entire team exceeded every expectation. Major hotels could learn from The Hampshire Hog. Faultless in every way, with the most delicious steak for dinner followed by a first class freshly cooked breakfast, dog treats and human treats in the bedroom .... just simply WOW!
The Potter's Heron is attractively situated in open countryside near Romsey in Hampshire. It is close to the village of Hursley where the Reverend John Keble, a saintly and influential figure in the history of the Church of England, was the Vicar in Victorian times. His church is normally open for visiting. The hotel has comfortable rooms, good cooking, and unrestricted free parking.
Fabulous location in this pretty Hampshire village. So much to do on the doorstep and the bus stop gives you options of coastal or inland routes which allows you to leave the car behind and enjoy the stunning views. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice. Outside dinning is available weather permitting. Efficient, hard working, knowledgeable, friendly staff.
Hotel was dog friendly, clean, fresh and comfortable. Lots of good facilities, pool, golf etc The bar was great for our evening. The location was great for country walks and not too far from train station and local pubs. A good location with a car for beaches and Hampshire villages and plenty of parking at the hotel.
Very helpful, ' bendover backwards' staff. Clean room, airy too....so not overheated like some hotels. And pleasant surroundings of the Hampshire countryside (there was reasonable distance and good screening from the A34 too, so we were not bothered by traffic noise )
Basingstoke
Clean, comfortable and cosy. Lovely and helpful owners The accommodation was just what we needed, nearby the Hampshire Court Hotel where we attended a wedding. Super local chips and fish shop (Oliver's) on London Road All kitchen utensils present. Nice quiet location
The location of the hotel is very nice. A village in the countryside of Hampshire, nearby Fareham. The staff was very professional and kind, ensuring we had the best stay possible. The breakfast was very good with quite wide list of choices.
Perfect location for Hampshire clinic (only 5 minutes drive) There’s all standard facilities for a hotel and you only pay an extra if you require additional charges if you need to use such facilities. That makes it good value for money too.
The room was a good size but too small for 3 guests which is what we booked for. The hotel is opposite the services, which was really helpful and for anyone visiting the Hampshire area, the location is helpful being on the motorway (M3).
The hotel was in a perfect location for our onward travel the next day. The hotel is quietly located in the countryside in north-west Hampshire. It has a swimming pool, which was an attraction for my wife.
Liphook
The most beautiful hotel and resort in Surrey/Hampshire area. Huge golf field, staff very welcoming and warm. One night is not enough, surely we will be back soon for longer weekend!
I love this place. I stay there for work when I'm in the Hampshire area. Decor and building are amazing. Staff are uber professional. Food is excellent.

Location good for exploring hampshire & The New Forest Good for the Zoo
