We visited for the Christmas market. However there is plenty to see and do in Winchester. Plenty of excellent restaurants, independent coffee shops and a good choice of shopping. The train station is walkable into town. A great place to visit.

The Christmas fair was magical and the atmosphere was great. The Cathedral is amazing and worth a visit. So much to see and not enough time. Also a huge Sainsburys being so near is a bonus. Look forward to returning to the Lodges again

    Quaint town. Some nice architecture.

Quaint town. Some nice architecture. Central hotels available.good amount of taxi ranks around Quite a few sites of interest to visit, some of which do a reduced ticket to see three of them Cathedral separate payment which we found very dear. If going at Christmas time lovely Xmas market around the cathedral and along the high street.to visit. Some nice cafes and bakeries which are well worth trying out For those who like a nose in a charity shop we came across at least 3 in the high street alone. If you have walking difficulties you might want to consider a quick taxi ride as the distance from the cathedral to king Arthur's table is quite long with a steep incline at one end.

We visited Winchester on 30th Nov, at the start of the Xmas season and it was very busy! Didn't make it to the Xmas markets as that had horrendous queues but spent a lovely couple of hours in the Cathedral - amazing exhibit called Kings and Scribes and also the 900 year old bible. Can't wait to visit the cathedral again. More benches in the grounds would be good. Nice mix of shops in the town including the winchester bookshop with 3 floors of second hand books! Market stalls on high street had a wide range of items too.

Winchester is lovely at any time of year.

Winchester is lovely at any time of year. There is plenty to do, a lot of which is either free or a small entrance fee. The park is beautiful in the summer. The cathedral is well worth a visit as is the City Mill. Lots of fabulous restaurants & coffee shops. The street market is great & the Christmas market is well worth a visit just for the atmosphere. Very easy to get around as it’s mostly flat in the town. We ate at Ask Italian a few times & enjoyed every meal also the Bishop on the Bridge is great too as they have an outside area overlooking the river. The Ivy is worth going to, the food is very nice & the staff are very pleasant. Lovely walks along the riverside in the summer months. We’ve been seven times & have never been bored.

The Cathedral was well worth a visit, with the tour that lasts 45 - 60 mins explained the changing architecture and the history of the building, as well as the importance of Winchester over the time period. Lots of varied shopping, with lots of independent shops as well as the usual main retail outlets, coffee houses and restaurants. We were there 2 days primarily for the Christmas market around the Cathedral - which was really well organised with lots of varied wares on sale and a central food market with a range of different hot food outlets.

Nice setting and location very handy for Winchester. Breakfast was good and excellent facilities in room. Just let down by poor housekeeping really. I liked the subtle animal touch in bedroom. Hotel staff were very nice.
