Set in a 19th-century building, The Sands Hotel, Orkney is situated along the shore of Scapa Flow in Burray village. It has a bar, a restaurant and beautiful sea views. The staff was wonderful. They were welcoming, gracious and extra-accommodating. We arrived later than the restaurant was open, but they were willing to stay open and serve us from the Bar Menu (which was delilcious). The entire stay was delightful.

Beautiful spacious room, with spacious modern bathroom and cosy bed. Lovely breakfasts, excellent cosy private bar. Parking close by/out front if you time it right. Staff - amazing! Chef so lovely and lady on breakfast duty also - helped set up so we could watch the All Blacks v England rugby match early in the morning. Chef also showed some interesting local events being the Orca visiting the harbour. Made us feel very welcome. Breakfasts were great - lots of choice

Breakfast was great. Location was coinvent to shopping and local restaurants. Parking was a little hard. Public car park nearby, but had to get free ticket every hour till 5PM, then free all night. Out the next morning. Small town and able to get our clothes washed in a nearby laundromat.

Personalet var usedvanlig vennlige, imøtekommende og profesjonelle. Rommet var stort og godt, badet romslig og varmt, bortsett fra om morgen når varmen hadde vært avslått hele natten. Meget behagelig seng med ordentlig dyne, noe som ikke er så vanlig. Deilig frokost med god tidsramme.

Det familiedrevne Merkister Hotel ligger ved bredden av Harray Loch, en 15-minutters kjøretur fra hovedbyene Kirkwall og Stromness. The breakfast was beyond expectations. Absolutely delicious and hearty portions!
