This is a fantastic accommodation in a quiet place. Iliana, the owner is a unique person. She is very helpful. We had an appartment on the highest floor and I had a backpain. Seems to be incompatible. In most hotels without a lift, it would be the case. But not at Iliana´s place! She did not hesitate a moment to bring our luggage upstairs and the day of departure, she was again there to help. She also prepares any food one wishes, and it was very tasty. Even though she was always busy, Iliana never lost her patience and listened carefully to my "broken" Bulgarian. To cut a long story short, it is worth to stay at Iliana´s place just to get to know her!

Rooms are comfortable and clean, a bit small but include everything you need. Beds are comfortable and for breakfast you have a choice of a few set meals. The owner is a very sweet guy and tries his best to make you stay comfortable. All in all, a great value for the price you pay.

Smolyan is okay. There are interesting things to see, unfortunately there was trash that distracted from a lot of the delightful sights. There was always the occasional plastic bottle or other piece of trash on the sides of the hiking roads. However, you can find some very beautiful landscapes in the mountain, which are worth it.
- Actually it's not a resort ( a bunch of big hotels scattered in the woods), - Maybe in winter is OK, but in summer is not much to do. In the area I recommend Smolyan Waterfalls Canion and Uhlovitsa Cave, overrated: Devil Throuth, Yagodina cave.
Smolyan can serve as a very good base for visiting the region. Pamporovo is 10 minutes by car, Waterfalls canyon starts practically from Smolyan. Several caves and many historical places are in up to 1 hour driving distance.
Great nature and beautiful views. The town of Smolyan is really worth visiting. It is a pitty that Pamporovo is so far away from Sofia and the curvy road is relly tirying to drive.
Beautiful place, good for a few hours but you should spend the night at Smolyan.
