Nachikatsuura
The air-conditioned country house consists of 3 bedrooms, a living room, a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave and a kettle, and 1 bathroom with a bidet and slippers. A flat-screen TV with cable channels is featured. A dressing room and laundry service is also available. What a special place! We love staying in old Japanese houses, and this one has been the best yet. It is so very well maintained and the gardens are gorgeous. We loved sitting in the mornings in the sun room overlooking the garden where you could hear the ocean waves. The neighborhood is nice and quiet and directly next to the beautiful beach. So many stars to see from the backyard! It was a very peaceful stay.
Nachikatsuura
Situated in Katsuura, this country house is 12 km from Nachi Waterfall. The country house is 14 km from Nachi Mountain. Free WiFi is available throughout the property. JR Shimosato Station is 17 minutes on foot. I highly recommend travellers to stay at this guest-house, especially if you want to experience Japanese country life. People in shimosato are friendly, and the owners were kind and answered questions in time. The house is kept clean, and has a very nice space for cooking.

Staying at the hotel was overall great, despite the part I didn't like

Located close to both the hiking trails and the tourist/pilgrimage spots. The property is quiet, clean, peaceful and is in itself a wonderful wooden building. The bedroom was comfortable with a nice view of the pond. If you want peace and quiet - this is the place.
So beautiful and serene. Lovely one-night stay. Cute rooms (Japanese / Monk style); quiet place with a reasonable number of guests. Peaceful setting, well maintain. Enjoyed the hot baths. Vegetarian meals (very enjoyable). The Monk spoke a really good English. The morning religious service was a really good experience This was by far my favourite area of my trip around Japan. The area is so calm and relaxed and the temples beatiful.
The room was beautiful with view on the garden, the area is extremely quiet and peaceful, the staff is friendly, there is also a small "onsen" inside the structure. In the morning I joined the prayer with the monks, a beautiful experience. The breakfast was good.
We loved our stay in this hostel. It's full of people traveling in the area or walking Kumano Kodo and there is a sense of camaraderie and support. Also majority of these people are focused on hiking, so it's not a party place, more like a peaceful haven, where you can rest in a private onsen, eat, get advice on hiking trails and recharge. We very much appreciated the owner to waiting for us with check-in, because we wanted to make a stop on our way there. Very friendly and hospitable. We have a great time! Thank you!
We loved the house and all its features. It was like living in a real Japanese home. Great location. Peaceful and quiet. Fantastic and helpful host. We had a great meal at his yakitori restaurant. And he even left some lovely rice balls for us to have for breakfast the following day even though meals were not included.
Beautiful and peaceful place. Room very clean and comfortable. The monks were all very nice and helpful. Being able to participate in the meditation and the morning prayer. Trying the onsen (public bath) experience. It was safe and quiet to walk to the city and back (even at late night).
Peaceful and quiet place, the kitchen equipment is well provided. Private onsen us interesting experience. Closed to go to Tore Tore fish market.
Good location - very close to one of the main streets but still very quiet and peaceful Temple atmosphere Possibility to participate in the morning ceremony and taking care of people getting accommodated during it. On-site public bath for guests
The service was exceptional, the man working at the reception desk was kind and professional. My room had everything I needed, and the view from the balcony was great - I was listening to the sounds of the ocean while falling asleep. It was peaceful, quiet, and clean.
