Birdsong Cottage blew me out of the water -- it's gorgeous, calming, immaculate and the hosts, Susan and Gavin, go above and beyond in ways that make you feel more like whānau than guests. The cottage is very pretty, clean and extremely comfortable with much evidence of attention to detail. I asked if I could check in earlier since I was checking out of a previous lodging at 10am and Susan was truly accomodating although it was a big ask. I took advantage of the property's stunning aesthetic with photos galore and spent most of the time on the porch with wine or coffee. I am a big Tūī fan, so it was an absolute dream and the hosts are mindful to make sure that birding is optimal on the property. At their kind insistence, Susan offered me fresh eggs and Gavin drove me to the Paraparaumu airport. Stunning experience, I cannot recommend it enough.

Free private parking is available on site. This is a lovely, spacious and meticulous cottage behind the main house. There is a pretty garden and the walking trail to Waikanae Beach and The Scientific Nature Reserve is right behind the house. The hosts met us when we arrived to see if we needed anything. They are very friendly and gave us great info on local hikes, activities, and restaurants. I highly recommend this cottage!
