Offering an outdoor pool, spa and on-site restaurant, Drostdy Hotel is located in the beautiful town of Graaff-Reinet, which features over 220 heritage sites. The hotel occupies a whole big block right in the historic center of an old town. It has cute and cosy streets, gardens, restaurant and a pool in the territory. Very good sophisticated breakfast. Rooms are posh and in style. It is like travelling to the past with all the comfort. Light shading is no problem at all, you won't even notice it untill you leave the hotel. Great experience, absolutely a must! In Graaf Reitnet there is plenty of things to see and to do, much more then for one day. We regret we didn't stay more.

Hotel in Chintsa
Situated in Chintsa, 1.4 km from Chintsa Beach, Purple Haze Eco Lodge features accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and barbecue facilities. What can I say. I arrived at 11pm after a hellish 15-hour drive from St Lucia but this wasn't a problem for Loaf who was just concerned for my safety. Purple Haze enjoys a great location, elevated for views of the beach and ocean from rooms, balconies or roof viewing deck. Room was clean and comfortable with all I needed for a short break. Power was off for the length of my stay due to a local problem (all East Chintsa) after a scheduled outage, but this didn't ruin my time there only enhanced it strangely. Loaf is a great relaxed host with plenty of time to talk about local points of interest, village and wider news. Love to return sometime as it was the perfect chill time out after too much touring

Sadly East London, like many town in the Eastern Cape area is very neglected and run down. The Aquarium, which I remembered as a kid, was appalling. It needs rejuvenation or shutting down. We visited the German settlers monument. this too was surrounded by broken glass and vandalised murals. very sad.
Port Elizabeth is fine for an overnight stop between the Garden Route and the private Safari Parks in the Eastern Cape. Excellent meal at the Coachman on the Bay.
East London is really a small town going through some developments. But overall quite and a good place to relax. Eastern Cape is big so there are various options for travel near East London
For my husband and myself Middelburg served the purpose of us seeing another part of the Eastern Cape. I don't think I would spent more than one night as there is not that much to see or do around there.
Having spent a night in both Hermanus and Knysna immediately before Port Alfred, the differences in the feel of the towns are stark. In contrast to the clean neat proud feeling in both Hermanus and Knysna, Port Alfred is a tired run down town so typical of Eastern Cape municipal incompetence and neglect. The tap water is not fit for human consumption. The roads are made up of a mass of repaired potholes, held together by a small amount of the original tar. The central buildings are run down and the litter and filth typical of Eastern Cape towns are present. The marina and some new apartments near the beach are the only signs renewal.
Good stopover place for journey between Durban and Eastern Cape. Farming community so lots of gravel roads in neighbourhood. At present time, end of May 2017, there are a lot of road works between Molteno, Dordrecht, Indwe, Elliot, Ugie with 10 no. stop/go, which delays journey quite substantially. (by an extra hour at least). The road from Maclear to Mount Fletcher and beyond is good. Hiking and mountain biking in area would be good.
A serene hideaway place in Eastern Cape. It is not on the usual travel map but it would leave you in awe. It is easily accessible from East London. There are endless beaches and very sparsely populated. Good area for surfing.
Graaff Reinet is one of the most scenic towns in the Eastern Cape Karoo. The historic town is amazingly neat and nestled below the most beautiful Karoo Mountains. Graaff Reinet and the surrounding area offers so much to see and experience. The little arty town of Nieu Bethesda is just a stones throw from Graaff Reinet. The "Owl House" once the home of popular artist, Helen Martins, is a must see. Many well known artists and sculptures live and have studios in town. A visit to the Valley of Desolation is a must. A highlight to me was simply experiencing the Karoo with its all of its beauty and tranquility using Graaff Reinet and the five star Drostdy Hotel as home base. Simply fantastic....
Day 5 of a road trip with my two teenage daughters was spent leisurely exploring the historic town of Bathurst where British settlers settled in 1820. Bathurst is home to the oldest continuously licensed pub in SA, the historic Pig and Whistle, est 1832, 100 years before the invention of the motorcar. They serve a mean lemon meringue-just by the way! The highlight was watching local folk going about their daily life as it once again demonstrated how different life can be from the hustle and bustle of our hectic city lives. The girls loved the Big Pineapple and made sure to capture their visit on lots of photos! Not that much to do other than a few eateries, shops and galleries to explore. Still an interesting experience. To top the experience we ended the day at a guest farm, Kingston Farm, enjoying Eastern Cape hospitality and beautiful, delectable fine dining at its best.
The Coelacanth, a prehistoric fish first discovered on this coast, is on display. This fish was thought to be extinct. The museum has the only remaining Dodo egg in exsistance. This bird is now extinct. I personally found the display of traditional beadwork to be facinating. The cultural displays highlight the wonderfully rich and diverse nature of the Eastern Cape population. After first visiting this museum some years ago, I still found it worth a repeat visit.
Maclear
My wife and I travelled along this route from KZN and then driving on some very bad roads in the Eastern Cape and seeing the poverty in Mount Fletcher, we were really surprised to come across this beautiful oasis. I booked when I saw the picture, but some organisations do not advertise correctly. We loved the friendly staff and the service that we received and the breakfast in the morning was very good. The room was lovely and comfortable and spotless.
Staff very friendly, breakfast excellent with managers ensuring being well taken of. Rooms very clean. Your service is so excellent. Give praise to God for the man tthat was obedient to God, Dr Andre who built Faith Dome. Bcos of Him your hotel will always be full of ppl who are hungry for God and prosperity is your portion in Eastern Cape . Will see you every year in June bcos we cant settle for less, yours is the best
It was very peacefull and quiet and so much to do .
intimate feeling of the room although part of a larger lodge
Everything about the place was perfect
Absolutely everything! It started so great with a warm Welcome at the Reception with Michaela to the Welcome at the Lodge with Stacey. We had a Drink and a superdelisheos Lunch (great Chef!). The room was awesome, all the staff great and our Ranger Courtney and Tracker Vuyani a great Team with huge Knowledge. No question Courtney cound't answer. The game drives were great fun and we were so lucky that in one game drive we saw all of the Big 5. Bush Brealfast and Boma, Dinner in our Room - always up to a surprise were just the cherries on top! Absolutely in LOVE with this place!
Everything was exceptionally well.
Their service was excellent, we realy appreciated it more when one of my friends lost the key card and they thought they were gonna pay and all that, but they didn't ask for money or anything.
The Fernery, located in Tsitsikamma National Park, is an exceptional property that offers unparalleled views of the ocean and the surrounding gorge. The natural beauty of the area is simply breathtaking and unlike anything we've ever seen before. Our two-night stay at The Fernery was an unforgettable experience. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that we felt welcome and comfortable throughout our stay. As a special touch for our honeymoon, they even upgraded us to an ocean-facing room which made our stay even more memorable. The room was spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated. The view from the room was simply spectacular, and we could spend hours simply gazing out at the ocean and the surrounding landscape. The peace and tranquility of the surroundings made it the perfect place to relax and unwind. The bar at The Fernery was beautifully designed, and the fireplace provided the perfect setting for a cozy evening. The ambiance of the bar was warm and inviting, and we loved spending time there. One of the things we loved most about The Fernery was the sense of seclusion and privacy. Despite being located in the national park, it felt like a world away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The natural beauty of the surroundings provided a peaceful and rejuvenating atmosphere that we will never forget. Overall, The Fernery is an exceptional property that we would highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable stay in Tsitsikamma National Park. The breathtaking views, spacious and well-appointed rooms, attentive staff, and peaceful atmosphere make for a truly unforgettable experience. We can't wait to return and experience it all again.
We had a lovely large room with its own delightful tree shaded courtyard.
The place was well kept and very nice views of the bush from the Charlet. We quite enjoyed the hiking trail which was a good distance to walk.
The staff and the view and setting. Also the food was great! Very comfortable!
The most beautiful place on Earth and the level of customer service was bar none- the BEST I’ve ever experienced. It was so personal, they went above and beyond and the food is to die for.
This location is the perfect couples getaway. All of the rooms are at least 40 meters apart and boast some magnificient views of the Zuurberg mountains. Dinner and drinks prices were more than acceptable and Camp Figtree was the highlight of my month long stay in South Africa. Staff were amazing too and we especially enjoyed our interactions with Siya and Mzi.
everything….especially the view
Great accommodation with a beautiful view. The staff is friendly and checking in and out went very quickly.
Huge room, huge bathroom, has all the amenities, was not an issue during load shedding as fan still worked which we were thankful for . Lovely verandah with pretty view. Extremely comfortable bed, would recommend this place. Plus good places to eat nearby.
The lodge that was stayed in was beautiful and although I was worried, having 3 next to eachother, and ours being the middle, it was actually very very private. All you could focus on was the Bush. And with the location we were spoilt with a nighttime visit from the buffalo, a morning with the giraffes right outside and then an extra special afternoon with the rhinos right outside our door.
it’s all what you need for a Family.
