The location of this hotel is amazing. It overlooks the river which is full of wildlife and has many beautiful birds to look at. It is also within walking distance of the Bat Tree which is a spectacular sight. I would recommend eschewing staying in udawalawe town to stay here as it is much more authentic and peaceful. The owner of the hotel is also a lovely man who went out of his way to help my partner when he rolled his ankle, even providing him with a balm for which we were very grateful. His cooking is also delicious and he welcomed us back each day with a juice. We would stay again.

We loved everything about this hotel!! New spacious room with modern bathroom and lovely private patio; excellent pool to cool off after morning safari or before evening one; very friendly and helpful manager who was always smiling and sharing info about elephants with us over meals; very good food (really liked the rice and curry!) which we weren’t necessarily expecting from a hotel restaurant. And the best part: seeing elephants across the road in park during breakfast l!! Side note: be careful about where you book in this area. The hotel we originally booked canceled on us day of when they found out we’d booked a safari through someone else (not them). We were lucky to find this current hotel who said it was our decision to book safari with them or not (although I’m sure their safaris are good too!).

We stayed for one night at Wild Lake Side Lodge to do two safaris in Uda Walawe NP. Milan is a wonderful host and made our stay very pleasant and memorable. We rented two of his three cabins which are spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped with aircon, hairdryer, water kettle for tea and coffee and a fridge. We enjoyed sitting on our private patio in the evening watching fireflies. Milan is very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. He also cooked us a delicious Sri Lankan dinner and breakfast with the best omelette on our trip. This is a truly beautiful little gem in a lush tropical garden.

Simple room but clean and very comfortable, you have everything you need for a night or two. Warm water which is quite rare in Sri Lanka. Huge beds. Very calm surrounding and walking distance from the safari. Dinner and breakfast both very very delicious,the best dinner and breakfast we had after 7days, homemade, fresh, tasty for a very good price😊 Host arranged a safari tour for just the 2 of us and took us to places where there were hardly any tourist...highly recommended.
