Set in Udawalawe, 2.5 km from Udawalawe National Park, Ali Weta Safari Resort offers accommodation with a restaurant, free private parking, an outdoor swimming pool and a shared lounge. We loved everything about this hotel!! New spacious room with modern bathroom and lovely private patio; excellent pool to cool off after morning safari or before evening one; very friendly and helpful manager who was always smiling and sharing info about elephants with us over meals; very good food (really liked the rice and curry!) which we weren’t necessarily expecting from a hotel restaurant. And the best part: seeing elephants across the road in park during breakfast l!! Side note: be careful about where you book in this area. The hotel we originally booked canceled on us day of when they found out we’d booked a safari through someone else (not them). We were lucky to find this current hotel who said it was our decision to book safari with them or not (although I’m sure their safaris are good too!).

The bungalows are modern and have everything you could need. The balcony is amazing with a view on the river and all the animals passing through. The staff were very friendly and spoke amazing english. The food was great and the price was fair. The highlight for us was the safari that the hotel organised. We went on a 7h safari and saw everything we could have possibly wanted to see. 50 elephants, jackals, deer, birds, lizards, water monitors, buffaloes, crocodiles,… They also provided breakfast in the park which was magical. Our driver was super knowledgeable and clearly passionate about animals. Truly amazing.

Beautiful tranquil location. The lodge is excellent, the rooms some of the best I had in Sri Lanka, the pool is nice and warm and perfect for a dip after a long day of Safari. The staff is excellent and will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The lodge also organized my private Safari, my guide and driver Nandu was excellent. I actually liked my Udawalawe Safari better than the one I did in Yala. It is less busy and except Leopards I saw more in Udawalawe than in Yala.

Offering a restaurant, Hotel Gayan's provides free WiFi access in its public areas. The Udawalawa National Park entrance is just a minute drive away. The breakfast and dinner was some of the best food we’ve had in Sri Lanka. They easily arranged the safari for us. Room was quiet and comfortable.
