I was born in Stratford. but this was my first visit for about thirty years, I was disappointed by how "tacky" the town has got. It used to be an attractive, quaint, market town, but not any more. The approach is now through huge housing estates. Those houses are probably the most expensive in Warwickshire for their size, but built anywhere else, would be cheap and nasty. now I've mentioned it, buildings like the Premier Inn are not easy on the eye. Totally unimpressed in what the town has turned into. Fortunately, the surrounding Warwickshire countryside is still beautiful.
Alcester is a typical old "sleepy" historical town set in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside and a great base to travel around the lanes and visit the quaint local villages and stately homes.
The Punchbowl was a really excellent place to stay and brilliant value for money. We had a really nice meal there and our room was of a very good quality. We found it a good place to access all parts of Birmingham as well as the Warwickshire countryside.
A lovely town with pleasant white frontage architecture. Very close to Warwick, Stafford and Coventry, so an excellent base for planning trips around Warwickshire and the south parts of the Midlands. An abundance of cafe's, bars and restaurants that cater for all tastes and budgets. Everything is in easy walking distance with no significant inclines throughout.
Ettington Chase hotel is located on the edge of the village, so its benefit is access to roads taking you quickly to all the best parts of Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds. However, the Chequers pub in Ettington is within walking distance of the hotel and is worth a visit.
The big draw in Warwick is the magnificent castle. It is a great historical attraction to visit with plenty of things of interest for all the family. And of course it is now possible to stay there. Once you have visited the castle, exit by the main entrance (not to the town) but down a flights of steps and out towards a busy roundabout by St Nicholas Church and park. Continue along the road past the park onto the bridge for the most spectacular view of the castle from the River Avon and get the best photo opportunity. The Old Museum recently renovated is good to visit as is St John's museum not far from St Nicholas Church. St Mary's Church is very interesting with tombs of historical figures as well as the Royal Warwickshire Regiment Chapel. There are plenty of places to eat in the town so take your choice. The Roebuck in Smith Street is very good as is Aqua, the Lebanese restaurant. Warwick is very compact and easily accessible on foot so find a parking spot and wear out some shoe leather!
Stratford-upon-Avon is a market town in Warwickshire, England. It was originally inhabited by Anglo Saxons and in 1196 John of Coutances set out plans to create a town. In that same year King Richard granted a charter to hold a weekly market in Stratford-upon-Avon. As a result the town experienced an increase in trade and commerce as well as urban expansion. In 2017 it is clear to see that historic buildings have been carefully preserved but the modern infrastructure is also in place. The riverside is well presented and offers a tranquil place close to the centre of town.
The castle was excellent and all the staff engaging. Worth every penny. We followed a perambulation of the city with the aid of the Pevsner for Warwickshire.
Warwick is wonderfully placed as a base from which to explore Warwickshire and the West Midlands; its authentic feel and compactness are wonderful. In the town itself, the castle is a must-see, but also there are some hidden gems like the cathedral and tea rooms. The only downside to the area is the amount of time it takes to get anywhere by bus and the sparse running of trains - hire a car, if you can.
A hidden treasure in the Warwickshire countryside minuets from the Cotswolds and a reasonably priced place to stay- it was like I used to live there I felt so at home
what a find, perfect little hotel tucked away in a lovely village, really friendly and helpful people, everyone smiling and genuinely helpful. Fantastic breakfast and a wonderful evening meal, couldn't fault it. Particularly impressed by the nice touches at breakfast, the "Jam" tower and the tea refills. A great place to get away from it all for a while. Good base for all the Warwickshire attractions, and not far from the Cotswolds either. Very well worth a visit.
Leamington Spa
The owners were very welcoming. Offered me lift to the wedding venue I was attending, down the road. The hotel had a nice homely atmosphere. I had a view over a lovely natural (not swimming) pool, with walkways / bridges and areas to sit out. I didn't expect breakfast, but there were cereals available in the room. A great base for visiting that part of Warwickshire.
The site of the hotel and its location. Near to Al;cester, Stratford and other Warwickshire/Worcestershire attractions. Room size, coffe & tea making faclkities in room. Large wardrobe space. Plenty of space in room, comfy chairs. Lots of plug sockets.
The Warwickshire is in a beautiful setting, we enjoyed wandering around the golf course and making the most of the good weather. The room was a good size and very clean. The bed was massive although the mattress was really hard. Staff were friendly.
A lovely hotel in rural Warwickshire conveniently located for Shakespeare country and the West Midlands The staff are first class without exception, nothing is too much trouble Rooms are very comfortable and well appointed Food is excellent tooo
Convenient location between the motorway and towns in Warwickshire. The hotel is welcoming and comfortable and the car park has a new electric charge point. Staff were friendly. The beds are comfortable and spacious.
A well-priced hotel in a convenient location for visiting the Cotswolds' and Warwickshire. The room and bathroom were clean and bed comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food well priced.
