It is in a quiet setting, rural Dorset is all around, coast about 45mins. There are great eating places in the vicinity & Paul has good recommendations. He is a very good host, booking our first night's table. Loved the rustic charm of the pubs. The Quiet Woman is a real find.
The coastal town has really upgraded it restaurants and its quaint streets make a delightful place to visit. It is central for Dorset visits and close to Devon. Abbotsbury and West Bay ( Broadchurch filming) are musts to visit. Eat at the French Lieutenant and both Italian restaurants as they are reasonably priced but above average food.
An old Dorset market town which has sensibly resisted the egregious efforts of developers. There are some good restaurants and some lovely old buildings.but not much entertainment if you aren't visiting friends. The Green Man was my pub of choice.
Cracking place to go off season. A bit too busy for me in mid summer. Well placed for nearby visits to nearby Wimborne Minster, The Purbeck Hills and Corfu Catle, Badbury Rings and Kingston Lacey House, a trip across the chain ferry at Sandbanks to the best beach in Dorset at Studland, (It is a naturist beach further down but your on holiday so when in Rome......). Portsmouth (HMS Victory and the Mary R) are a day trip away. The New Forest, Bovington Tank Museum, Monkey World. The list is only limited by the type of holiday you want. Bournemouth as a holiday centre allows access to it all.
Loved the beautiful architecture in the town, the range of shops, ease of access, central location for the Badger Brewery and Royal Signals Museum. Stayed here after walking the Lawrence Trail and visiting Bovington Tank Museum - the Crown Hotel was the perfect end to a perfect day. I'd now stay here and commute to any attraction in Dorset and the surrounding counties. The only negative thing was a couple of guys whose fight spilled out of a pub and into the street - but you can get that anywhere, and the Police appeared and dealt with the matter so quickly it was almost a blink and miss it incident. Would definitely recommend the food at The Crown Hotel and will look forward to going back and exploring Blandford further.
Interesting market town with some nice shops as well as the usual chains and a weekly market. good base for discovering West Dorset. Sherbourne and Shaftesbury in land as well as Lyme Regis and Weymouth are all within easy reach. The road to Weymouth has some spectacular views of Chesil Beach.
Weymouth is a pretty seaside town along the Dorset coastline with plenty to offer. It doesn't get too overpopulated with tourists making for a relaxing destination to stay and relax.
Bridport is central to some great accesses to the coast, beaches and towns in Dorset. One of our favourite places is Westbay with its long beach in front of the cliffs ideal for walking your dogs. Westbay has plenty of cafes to enjoy cups of tea, the fish and chip shop opposite the Caravan park is a real joy. The Hunters Lodge out on the A35, about 15/20 minutes away from Bridport is worth a visit. Also the Hive café on Hive Beach is also good if you fancy seafood dishes.
Visit Sherborne Abbey ( best in Dorset) Visit Sherborne New castle Interesting Shops and Pubs Many coffee and tea shops Good car parks Main line train station on Waterloo to Exeter line
Weymouth is a place where anyone of any age could have a wonderful holiday. There is an excellent bus service running along the front and also to places of interest in Dorset. The promenade is flat allongside the clean, safe beach. The bay is very shallow so the sea is safe for children. There are lovely restaurants, a great shopping area and harbour. You will find !it's to do to suit all ages
Wareham
Great atmosphere in a beautiful Dorset town. Had to leave before breakfast in order to catch a ferry in nearby Poole. The hotel made up a packed lunch for me the night before, which was a welcomed touch. The evening meal that I had in their resturant was really excelent and went down well after a long drive to get there. Highly recomend this Inn for its bedroom with a comfortable bed, ensuite shower room/wc and good selection of tea and coffee. This is actually my second stay at Anglebury House and it was again up to my expectations.
This hotel met every requirement for an enjoyable stay. The breakfasts were superb with a well-led out buffet. the dinners were good and the menu changed every night and there was an interesting wine list. The staff were very attentive. The bedrooms were comfortable with adequate drawers and furniture. There was a comfortable lounge with a bar and a small garden with a view over the coast, where one could sit. The hotel is a very convenient venue for anyone who wishes to explore the Dorset coast and the beautiful Dorset countryside
Dorchester
A serene haven in the heart of the Dorset countryside, offering a peaceful rest. The hosts were welcoming and the breakfast was one of the best we have ever had anywhere in the world. We loved our room, decorated in classic country style, with a beautiful bouquet of flowers from their graden completing the ambience. We particularly liked the hosts knowledge and love of the countryside, something that shone through in everything they did. We can definitely recommend this hotel to those looking for a true countryside experience.
Charmouth
The location and facilities were very good. The little shop by the reception was a bonus. We were surprised with the size of our glamping pod as inside it was bigger than it looked from the outside. The fish and chips at the local cafe were very tasty. We enjoyed it very much! The toilets/shower facilities were close enough to the pod. Unfortunately, we did not manage to use the swimming pool due to going on a few trips all over Dorset and Devon. The mattress was very comfy and the bedding was nice hotel quality.
Weymouth
We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Harlequin Guest House. The hotel's prime location near the beach and high street made it the perfect starting point for our exploration of Dorset. Mike, the owner, was incredibly polite and took the time to highlight the nearby attractions worth visiting. We wholeheartedly recommend this hotel, especially considering its remarkably affordable price, ideal location, and the attentive and friendly staff. Our stay here exceeded all expectations.
The apartment was beautifully presented on arrival. Directions to the property and access instructions were very good and simple. The property is located a short walk from the main areas of Lyme Regis and the Sea Front. The walk does entail a steepish hill but this should not challenge the able-bodied. The hot-tub, at the bottom of the garden, only a short walk from the entrance door, is a luxurious facility to be included. Nice touch - a lovely box of Dorset biscuits await your arrival.
Bridport
Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff. Loved the thoughtful, considered decor and unobtrusive 'mod cons'. Particularly loved the choice of colour in our room, number 6, restful/elegant. The bed was super comfy. The breakfasts were delicious. We had the Dorset but I spied others being delivered avocado, poached eggs etc and cleaning their plates. In my opinion, the Bridge House is everything a small hotel should be.
Dorchester
We were very impressed with our stay and found the staff & facilities met our expectations, to include top marks for the monetary value of our stay. We will certainly stay again at this hotel when we next venture into Dorset. We loved learning about the history of the area and the reason why the hotel is called The Rivers Arms. We wish the owners the very best of fortune with their hotel.
Sherborne
Very well appointed apartment in a quite and tranquil setting. The apartment and fittings were in excellent condition and cleanliness. Ideally located for travelling around Dorset and Somerset. Can definitely recommend the Haynes Motor Museum. Our hosts were exceedingly nice (thank you John for indulging me in a chat about all things motor-racing!).
We loved the view from our room. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Staff friendly , great food. We loved the evening meal and great breakfast. The Hotel has bar and restaurant. Beach nearby, perfect location in Dorset countryside near to beach. Amazing views. Perfect relaxing break. 10/10
We had the weather on side because it was a lovely warm sunny weekend. Plus the views from the hotel across the English Channel coastline and Dorset was stunning 😍 Would recommend this hotel and Portland for a short visit or longer if you have the time, because it was beautiful 😍
The location was perfect for our evening at the Dorset Opera Festival. Reception, Bar and Restaurant staff were all excellent. The room was just what we wanted with comfortable beds. The food and drinks were both very good quality. My Daughter and I both loved The Crown Hotel.
Brand new modern, clean, spacious and comfortable hotel within driving distance of many lovely things to see and do in Dorset, lovely friendly staff and always on hand to help if needed, the meals including breakfast we had at the hotel were excellent with plenty of choice.
A welcoming, very friendly and well run hotel in a fantastic location. A very comfy room with an excellent breakfast. The perfect place to getaway to enjoy the peace and quiet of the beautiful Dorset coastline, with the hotel situated only a few minutes from the sea.
Blandford Forum
Perfect place to stay! We travelled down to Dorset with friends and we had a great time, its a beautiful apartment fantastically equipped. Hosts were in touch as needed and very polite and helpful. Would definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone!
The property was nestled in the Dorset countryside not too far from the coast and close to the local attractions. It was a really nice apartment - clean, comfy, spacious with everything we needed. Evie the host was really friendly and welcoming
Dorchester
Great breakfast every day, very friendly staff. Hotel location on the high street meant everything in town was within walking distance, and Dorchester’s central location in Dorset made it easy to get to other places we wanted to visit.
Good breakfast with extra touches e.g. unlimited tea, toast, juice. Great location to explore west Dorset, Staff excellent, polite & so attentive. Just a unique special hotel.
Great base for travelling around Dorset. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean throughout the hotel and comfortable pleasant rooms. Places to eat and drink nearby
Dorchester
Architecture and layout very original, lots of separate seating areas. Evening meal very good. Location ideal for exploring Dorset, free parking.
