If you are interested in history at all in the Burgundy area of France, Cluny with its abbey ruins and museums is a fine placce to start. We also wanted to experience the ecumenical retreat center at Taize, just 10 minutesup the road from Cluny. That was wonderful as well and Cluny mde for a good place to stay and start iur tiur of the Burgundy region of France.
Beaune is a beautiful city with loads to offer in the way of history, wine and class. The Burgundy region is packed full of must see places and Beaune, with it's magnificent hospice, wine caves and chic boutiques is a treasure. Wineries close by in either direction provide wonderful day trips, bike hire and lovely walks are must dos. The old city is surrounded by a mote like wall, with an Arc to welcome you. Formed within a circular pattern, the rues and places are sometimes challenging, but there is interest around every corner! The food is second to none, with restaurants and cafes a plenty and the Saturday market was a sensation, too! I will be back!!
It seemed rather down at heel even though at the centre of Burgundy's finest wine area. The town is spoiled by busy roads running through it. The pedestrian centre was rather let down by the local youth climbing all over the post office, bicycling on pavement and being noisy. Endemic dogs mess.
Dijon is a real gem, with great architecture and rich history in the heart of Burgundy, land of the world's most prestigious wineries. The region abounds with picturesque towns and villages, loads of castles set is postcard perfect scenery. Beaune is a must. Nolay, Chalons, are just some of charming towns around. The food is amazing, and the wine, well, it's Burgundy! We stayed 3 days, but should have stayed at least a week.
Beaune is a gem of a city, very compact and full of history at every turn. The Saturday market should not be missed and the food/wine of course is excellent...this is Burgundy after all!
Quaint small village in the burgundy region. Immaculately preserves and kept town. A great bolangerie/patisserie on the main street. Close a number of other villages in the region including Beaune.
Climbing to the top of Philip the Good tower - knowledgeable and helpful guide. The palace of the Dukes of Burgundy was amazing. The cathedral and St Michel church were interesting. Good restaurants with local cuisine. Friendly local people. Very easy to walk around, nice shops. Perfect location for a short break.
Dijon is a nice town and a good starting point for visiting Burgundy. I spent three nights there but it can be visited in one day. We had some trouble in finding open restaurants because of the vacation period in France. We would have liked to explore Dijon's gourmet side a little bit more, but we didn't succeed fully. Nevertheless it's worth the visit.
What a fabulous place. I have always wanted to visit Dijon and was not disappointed. The friendly people, the great food, the clean streets, the magnificent buildings of very diverse architectural style, and the lack of tourists compared with other French towns and cities, made this the most memorable experience of my recent travels. The town is served by a free electric bus which passes by most landmarks which are majestic. Quaint cafes served excellent food, especially in Place d'Emile Zola which is one of the most picturesque squares in France, surrounded by cafes and restaurants, where one can eat, drink and be merry and friendly with the locals under the shade of trees and umbrellas. Dijon mustard and burgundy wine is a must here, although they are manufactured a short distance away (less than 20 minutes by train) in a town called Beaune.
Perfect place for stop enroute to south of France. Lots to see within medieval walls. Centre of Burgundy wine area. Try and get to Nuits Saint Georges village for lunch.
Great location for a stopover while travelling through France as very close to the motorway exit. We were travelling to Italy and only wanted somewhere to eat and sleep after a long day - although the town itself is lovely and is close to Beaune and Dijon so the hotel could be a base if you wanted to explore this part of Burgundy. Staff were helpful and very friendly. We ate on the terrace outside so not sure if the dogs would be welcomed inside in colder weather. Room was clean. Dinner and breakfast were good.
Le Central Boutique Hotel is probably the best place to stay in Beaune. The place is lovely, common spaces are beautifully furnished and staff is very nice and helpful, they help me rent a bike and let me keep it in their garage for the time needed during my stay. The host, Edgar, managed to build a very familiar environment, it really feels like home. Also, it's close to anything you'll ever need. I blow my birthday candle here, it has been my best stop in Burgundy!
This hotel was in a perfect location in central Auxerre. If you are landing at CDG and are looking to immediately travel to Burgundy, I cannot recommend stopping in Auxerre and staying here more. Damien greeted us, showed us around the property, and helped bring our luggage to the third floor. He gave us great recommendations on local wines to try. His dog Cyrus is adorable too. All in all 10/10. A wonderful start to our honeymoon.
Excellent location for exploring Dijon, everything looked new and there was enough space for us (a family of 4). There was also free private parking provided in front of the apartment. The kitchen was fully equipped if you would like to cook (we didn't, as there are lots of great restaurant nearby). The host was very helpful and nice. I would definitely stay again here when visiting Dijon or Burgundy in general.
Auxerre
the size, amenities, owner, location, breakfast, everything was great. best stay I had on a 2 week biking trip thru Burgundy. Hadrian was very helpful in every way, English was very good.the apartment is large and a welcome relief after 12 days in mostly small hotel rooms. 2 bedrooms and nice shower. also good secure storage for our bikes. unless you're trying to stay budget I suggest you book this place.
The apartment is charming and spacious, with a functional kitchen. The courtyard is nice for good weather stays. The beds were comfortable. The location is excellent, near the tour horologe and in the centre of the charming town of Avallon. Just a short work to the boulangerie, boucherie, other shops, gardens and the town walls. Avallon is situated in a beautiful part of Burgundy.
Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The bar was well-stocked with local produce (this is Burgundy country but they also stocked an excellent locally brewed beer). The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. The free wifi worked. Breakfast was good. This is not a hotel with pretensions to luxury but a very good mid-market place for a stopover on a trip through France.
This is a good base to use if you're visiting the Burgundy region and Beaune. Nuits-St-Georges is a nice small town surrounded by vineyards, with good restaurants and cafés. This hotel had all that we needed for a two-night stay. It's close to the autoroute for easy access and has lots of parking, as well as being close to the town and all amenities.
Puligny-Montrachet
The location was perfect for exploring the Burgundy region and its amazing wines. The Mews is a lovely little apartment with all mod cons and is extremely comfortable. The hosts Jill and Steve were very hands on in answering questions and making bookings on our behalf. Nothing was too much trouble for them and their help and advice made our stay very special.
The restaurant was excellent, exceptional, and the service was spot-on and attentive. The team explained each dish and took the time to engage, which was nice. It was up there with the best food we had whilst travelling around burgundy. Our room was comfortable and ideal for an overnight stay. There is free parking directly outside the hotel.
Elegant, spacious bathroom, deep closets and a panoramic view of the countryside from my room. Staff were all gracious and helpful. The location is perfect. It is surrounded by natural beauty and historic buildings. Vezelay and the this area of Burgundy is truly beautiful. Everyone I encountered was friendly and generous with their time.
Saint-Martin-des-Champs
Beautiful location in a small and charming village in the Burgundy area. Jean Luc provided us a very warm welcome and help for a restaurant reservation. We (and our dog) had an immediate homely feeling. The breakfast next morning in the beautiful garden was a real treat. The apartment is tastefully decorated, cozy and spacious.
I wonder why this brilliant hotel has only 3 stars. I,ve been to 5 stars which is much worse than this one. staff absolutely fantastic, location very good, breakfast just great, rooms very comfy. So to whom it may concern, give them more stars. on my way through Burgundy, I found place when I gonna stop . Thank you
Ladoix Serrigny
it is an ideal location for seeing the burgundy area of France, vineyards, wineries, tastings, etc. The hostess is exceptional The property has a washing machine and dishwasher, which are very helpful We also had a beautiful garden in back to entertain and relax I would highly recommend and would stay there again!
We spent one night here, on a trip through Burgundy. The host made us feel extremely welcome, the house is beautiful, the meals were excellent. We could not have asked for a better stay. I would clearly recommend this hotel to anyone, and I would gladly stay there again if I am ever in the area.
Auxerre
Great location in Auxerre. Plenty of restaurants, cafes and shopping opportunities nearby. A very good boulangerie nearby with great bread and baked goods. Close to many sites in northwest Burgundy. The apartment was very comfy and spacious. Host was great and very helpful.
Room was very basic but OK, very good private parking, perfect location to explore Burgundy and then spend evening in the city. Location great just outside of the hisorical center with a lovely square in front of hotel, still a short walk to reach the Hotel Dieu
Paray-le-Monial
This apartment is conveniently located in the heart of Paray-le-Monial and within driving distance of some nice sites in Burgundy such as Solutré, Cluny and Berzé-le-Châtel. It was very clean, quiet, tastefully decorated and would be spacious enough for 6 people.
Santenay
Ideal location for exploring Burgundy and well situated in the pretty town of Santenay. The apartment is small but well fitted out and has everything you need. Very clear and friendly communication with the host, Cecile
Good hotels for a family trip as it has some rooms with one double bed and a bunk bed. The breakfast was good and very convenient. The hotel is in a good location to visit Burgundy’s vineyards.
