I paid a little more for a room at the rear overlooking the garden/courtyard. The hotel is situated quite centrally and I thought this might prove to be a quieter experience. It did. I had a great nights sleep, on a very comfortable bed. There's a quite secure car parking area on the hotel grounds at the rear, which made for peace of mind. The hotel is quite old and I wouldn't expect perfection when it comes to some of the fittings. It was adequate and I enjoyed my time there. The staff were friendly and efficient. The location made for an easy exploration of local sights and restaurants, on foot. The breakfast was superb too. Overall a good stay that I would recommend.

This is a brilliant place to stay- character in abundance with lovely touches that makes it really special. You are really close to restaurants and services and I would highly recommend. I would have loved to have stayed for longer.

Avallon is an attractive market town in northern Burgundy. It is immersed in beautiful countryside, and is of a manageable size for walking around, sampling the shops, cafes, and restaurants, and enjoying the Burgundian architecture. It is quiet in May. It can be a nice base for a few days to adventure to nearby sites such as Vezelay and the Bazoche chateau.

a perfect example of a 'French town' - compact, architecturally harmonious, lovely markets, great views, interesting fortified town with some distinguished buildings (eg the basilica of S Lazare).
Well, it's a tremendous location, and it's a lovely old mill building with the wheel still in place. The bed was very comfortable and the room was a reasonable size. Avallon, two miles away, is a lovely large old village with lots to see. You can get some good walking from the hotel, though you have to look for that for yourself.
The whole experience was great, from the room, and outside garden area to the restaurant and staff. We ended up extending our stay by an additional 2 nights.
All in all would recommend this Hotel to anyone.
