Saariselkä is such a beautiful small town in the heart of gorgeous Lapland!!! I had the chance to see the Northern Lights which is a magnificent experience!!!!!! There are plenty of activities to enjoy, the food is amazing and people are extremely nice!!!!!!!!! It is a perfect break that will definitely give you inner peace and well-being!
North of the arctic circle is a great place to fully immerse yourself in nature. The people of Saariselka are very friendly, gracious, and helpful. There are many organized activities for all ages. Lodging in cozy cabins with saunas and fireplaces or romantic glass top igloos are available at reasonable rates. You will measure the value of your Lapland vacation by the incredible memories you will make!
We loved that it is a great central location for the biggest tourist places around the Lapland area. Only had a bad time arguing with a lady at the Levi ski resort... even tho was a great time, for the price spent, you can get better fun/customer care anywhere else. Personnel at the airport were Beyond THE GREATEST! got a lot of help! Great experience
We loved Pyha and the surrounding areas. There is so much to do; horse riding in the snow, visiting reindeer park & taking a reindeer safari, snowmobiles, husky safari, an amethyst mine, cross country & downhill skiing, ice hotels, ice-slides, visiting Santa (we had to go to Roveniemi for those last 3 experiences) and so much more. Beware of temps lower than -20 degrees if going on snowmobiles as children are not allowed to travel in the sledge at that temp. (or lower)! Northern Lights aren't a given (of course) and we didn't get to see them; hopefully next time. The cabins all seem to have a sauna built in - try rolling in the snow & then going back in to the heat .… !! Huttuhippu restaurant has great food - try the reindeer, it really is as good as they say! It's about a 20 min drive to Luosto where there is more downhill skiing, a good sledging slope and the road in between is straight and empty :-) Remember to buy alcohol at the duty free shop on the way out as you can only buy beer at the supermarket and the hotels/restaurants won't let you take an unfinished bottle of wine away with you! If you want other alcohol you have to find a special shop (which we didn't come across) but if we had we would have also bought some Laplandia vodka … delicious & not for sale at the airport on the way home either. Food didn't seem as expensive as we were expecting - if you are self-catering you'll be fine. People are super-friendly and very helpful. We would definitely go back :-)
Great town to see Aurora Borealis in Lapland with lots of activities, easy walking trails to UKK national park
Peaceful small town in Lapland. Good connections to activities if traveling by car. Pyhä Tunturi Ski Resort is under an hour drive away. Very beautiful in winter. The town is small enough to reach everything by foot.
It's a hub of lapland so you cant really avoid it. Easy comfort overnight train from/to Helsinki. The santa village is a bit too touristy.
Great spot to be based for a generic visit to Lapland. Unfortunately the prices are in most cases a bit excessive, and even in different companies for the same activity there is a minor price difference and some major quality variations.
A great surprise during our Lapland Tour. Altough a vacation place, it has everything one looks in Lapland: great ski, sightseeing, plenty of safaris, not too many tourists and several national parks nearby.
Breathtaking beauty - one of the most picturesque views as you fly in. Fascinating place for natural phenomena. However crowded with tourists and highly commercialized as a result. I had a 50/50 service experience between lovely hosts and those who treated me with contempt. If you're a people-person like me and travelling alone (in my case for a wedding) it's not a great destination. If you're travelling with a loved one and want to see somewhere truly unique on this planet, Rovaniemi may be a good launch pad to explore Lapland/the Arctic.
We booked with arctic tree hotel to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and to see the Northern Lights. Staff, every single one, went beyond and above to make us comfortable. They are a joyful and organized staff. The hotel itself is unique, spotless, and very well situated for viewing Northern Lights and visiting Santa’s village and the town of Rovaniemi. The restaurant is exquisite! The breakfast buffet boasts Lapland favourites and the dinner menu is exquisite!!! If we didn’t live so far away in Canada, we would visit again and again!!!!
Hotel staff is very very helpful. Hotel location is very good for Lapland outdoor attractions such as husky sledging, rein deer farm visit, snow mobile tours and skiing. Staying in chalet was a good experience. We enjoyed the fireplace and sauna. We enjoyed silence of the nature around us and amazing scenery of chalet in the forest. Extra tours we purchased were amazing. Kids loved them and they will always remember the experience. Hotel staff is very helpful and they stepped in immediately when we had a heating issue once.
Ilkka has been very kind, helping us to get the best experience for our holiday in Lapland. The apartment is very comfortable with lots of services: kitchen (with lots of tools to cook), bathroom (large and clean), private sauna (perfect after a whole day in the snow). The apartment position is perfect because it is only 10 minutes from Saariselkä (where there are supermarkets, coffee, resturants and shops) and it is also isolated from any light pollution: we were lucky to see the Northen Lights just outside the apartment!
Rovaniemi
Everything was amazing, the chalet looks just like the pictures. It is very clean, and has many utensils in the kitchen making it easy to cook various things. The fireplace is such a big plus, with the firewood provided by the owner. We had a great time, were so cozy, and really enjoyed the location as well (in the nature, very quiet and close to hiking trails). There is a fancy hotel (Lapland Hotels Sky Ounasvaara) only 7 minutes walk away that offers an amazing breakfast buffet, it's worth it to try at least once!
The staff at the reception was friendly and helpful. The sauna in the room worked really good, the beds were comfortable. Breakfast is excellent and it's available until 10. Products are fresh and local. It's really a pleasure to eat at Lapland Hotels. We had also a rich buffet dinner for twenty-five euro, we ate a lot of delicious food and we were really satisfied. Check out is at 11 am, which is convenient. Lots of parking space. Wi-Fi worked good as well. Nice gift shop near the reception.
Rovaniemi
Absolutely amazing stay Host was so helpful and even left a small gift for the kids in our family aswell as an Xmas Tree do decorate such a kind touch. Apartment is fantastic so warm and cosy so spacious, so cosy to come home to after a day in snow, so much space so not to drag wet boots in inside, honestly best apartments I've ever stayed as a family of 7 Sooooo many facilities and location is a 2 minute walk from town I'd recommend this apartment to anyone going to Lapland such a gem
A magical place! The staff were helpful and considerate and could not do enough to make our 4 night stay a pleasure. We stayed in the Aurora Cabin for 4 nights and it was excellent. The sauna in the room was also an added bonus. The buffet food was good. In the two other hotels we stayed at in Helsinki and Lapland, both had Porridge on the menu for breakfast. All in all a wonderful stay and would not hesitate to recommend the Wilderness Hotel, Muotka to anyone.
Incredible bucket list stay at the ranch. Unfortunately we didn’t have any luck with seeing the lights as we had cloud for our whole holiday in Lapland, but there was plenty to do at the ranch even without the lights or star gazing. Cabin was chic and waking up in the forest was an experience my husband and I will never forget. Sledding, I’ve skating, and the bonfire were all great fun and made the stay more of an experience rather than just a hotel.
We stayed at the hotel only oone night heading to the north of Lapland and we had anyway a very good experience. The reception was very good. The hotel has a perfect position in the city not far from the bus station and railway station (reachable at walking distance if you don't have too much luggage). The breakfast was really good and with so many choices. I think it can be a good choice also for those chosing to stay few days in town.
Saariselka
This is an amazing place. Close enough to Saariselka to have everything (shops, ski resort and general infrastructure), but far enough to be on our own in the middle of Lapland. Yes, this is one of the places where you can actually see the northern lights from your front door. Besides that the apartment is suuuper functional, we could've easily lived here months without missing anything. One of the best places we've ever been!
Äkäslompolo
we had the most amazing stay in this fantastic apartment, perfect for our large family. everything we needed was supplied by the apartment. we couldn't have wished for anything more. excellent location for a beautiful stay in lapland. would definitely stay here again. only 25 minute walk to the local supermarket. the host was fantastic, great communication and all information was provided in advance. would highly recommend.
Kilpisjärvi
I have stayed for more than a week at different areas in Lapland but this is the only place I saw northern nights. the highway E8 to Norway is one of the best places for Aurora viewing. The duplex apartment is new, modern, spotless clean, and comfortable. floor heating worked well. welcome Finnish chocolates, and very friendly owner. we very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely return in the future. highly recommended!
Rovaniemi
The hostel was clean with fresh sheets provided. The kitchen facilities were very good - young woman with blonde hair was really lovely and helpful - There are guides where you can read through activities on what to do in Lapland - Shop isn’t too far away, you can have very cheap meals which is good - near Santa clause village, good if you want to see Santa, bad if you don’t want to see Santa
Excellent breakfast and lovely dinner as well. The staff was absolutely amazing and very helpful. The view to Saana is breathtaking and the location of the hotel is very good, only few minutes from all the major nature trails of the area. This was one of the best hotels I have stayed in Finland. Not just plastic Lapland decor for foreign tourists, but an authentic place with wonderful atmosphere.
Kristiina was really lovely. She sent me a message with useful information prior to my arrival, and she was there to help with anything you might need. The room was very clean and nice. We also enjoyed the breakfest and the coffee in the hotel's restaurant. We stopped twice in 2 weeks during our vacation to Lapland, and we will for sure come again during our next visit in the area.
Laplands Hotel Hetta is in a great location right by a beautiful lake. It is a great stop-over if you are traveling through. The hotel offers a kind of good old fashioned 70´s vibe, even though it has clearly been refurbished at various times. It is a lovely resort hotel, with a great restaurant serving wonderful local produce. The staff are very friendly too.
Saariselka
The apartment is exactly as advertised and more! Great location, convenient and well equipped! Easy car park, shops, restaurants within walking distance, yet quiet and in the middle of Lappish nature. Clearly, the hosts are passionate about Lapland and want to share this with their visitors. It made us feel very welcome and as if we were home, away from home.
Rovaniemi
The apartment is made by three rooms, a living room with a couch and a bed, a kitchen and a bathroom. The apartment was generally very clean and had the kitchen essentials to cook an easy meal. The property also had a parking lot which was very useful. We also really liked the bedsheets and the towels which aren't always included in Lapland stays.
Rovaniemi
In one word: amazing! Clean, very practical, dog-friendly, cosy, well located, and a sauna!! If we come back one day, with no hesitation we will go back. I could live in this apartment all year long since it is so pleasant and comfortable. Thanks to Heidi for the smooth communication and for making our stay in Lapland an unforgettable experience.
The overall experience of this place is excellent. The hotel itself, staff, services and offers inside the hotel. We were very satisfied with our holiday in this place. Various recreational opportunities. Looking forward to returning to Lapland and to this hotel. The breakfasts were delicious, nutritious and plentiful.
