Street food, no prices for food on the street, even in some fruit stores, so prices according to what you what you look like and to the honesty of the merchants, not always fun, just part of travelling in Asia, you have to learn. Nothing really special in Kunming, big city, but not too stressfull, air looks better than in Beijing and Shanghai, of course, lots of Chineses tourists, Kunming is the main gate for Yunnan province, very touristic.
I'm in Kunming for a semester at Yunnan University. The city is great, and there are so many cool things to do that I don't have time for. It's beautiful.
The old town revision is nice but a little touristy. The tea museum was interesting. There are lots of great bargains for jade and stones from Burma. It's hard to find a decent restaurant in Old Town Kunming. We didn't eat well there. Yunnan University is worth visiting. And wandering a little further afield, it is possible to find more genuine-feeling areas. We bought a silk quilt that was handmade in front of us with expertise and pride. We had to wait while an elderly local lady and her even more elderly mother had theirs made.
Lijiang still retains the old-world charm of Yunnan, with its many colorful and disticnt indigenous tribes fused with everyday living. I highly recommend to stay near the Shuhe old-town which still resonates energies of quietness, leisurely strolls without pressures or harrassment from aggressive vendors, unlike the very disappointing Lijiang old-town that has transformed itself into a quasi-modern day mumble-jumble mess, where most old-charm artisans, handicrafts and slow-pace coffee/tea houses are replaced by unending bars, and loud-speaker nonsensical music!
Dali is a beautiful town in Yunnan province. It stretches for 140 kms around Erhai Lake. One can enjoy the natural beauty of the mountains and the lakes, visit beautiful Buddhist temples, roam around the streets and buy some beautiful handicrafts and food products.
Liked the Shilin Stone Forest (UNESCO Geopark), Yuantong Temple (magnificient archway and historical buildings) and Guandu Guzhen (mix of Burmese, laotion, thai influences, Ah Bo's Burmese restaurant is a must try). The weather was also nice and cool, a lovely respite from the summer heat. Not too keen on yunnanese cuisine as feature mix of salty, spicy (peppercorn) sauces. Getting around in taxi is easy.
A beautiful ancient town to see along with nearby natural scenery by day, and a magical town by night. A must see while visiting Yunnan.
Breathtaking views, beautiful architecture and lovely people. Recommend staying in quiter towns which are less commercialised than the old town of Lijiang which is fully of shops anf tourist. Would love to visit Lijiang and other parts of Yunnan again.
A little less touristy than Lijiang as there are actually locals working and living in the old town but still a huge number of tourist shops and bars. Probably not the hippy haven it once was a little more hipster with its coffee shops, good for a few days. Definitely rent a scooter and explore Erhai and the villages around it for a better flavour of Yunnan culture.
The hotel has a beautiful view of Erhai. I could see Erhai from my bed. The small hotel was beautiful and clean. Breakfast was delicious. The owners and staff were amazing. The owner helped all new guest take beautiful pictures with Erhai. They helped me with using Alipay, WeChat Apps for making payments, ordering taxi and deliveries. The owner even drove me to the bank and helped me put money in my WeChat Wallet so I could continently make payments with WeChat for the rest of my trip in Yunnan. I highly recommend this small hotel to anyone.
Lijiang
This is my favorite hotel during my stay in Yunnan. It is in the center of the Lijiang Old Town with walking distance to tour around. The town is full of historical views and very stunning. Staff is very helpful and caring, particularly thanks to Julia and 晓晓. They could answer all our questions and give us recommendations for dining and scenery places for photo taking. Room was spacious and well-equipped. We also had special treats due to our wedding anniversary. Thanks Artistic-Suite!
the hostel is great, about 10 minutes walking from the metro station and close to the train station, it is well connected to get to the airport. It is close to the food street and is very clean and organized. I was also able to leave my backpack at the hostel for 3rmd a day while traveling through other cities in Yunnan, and that was great. In particular, I would like to thank the reception team who were very kind to me and helped me with everything I needed. thank you very much!
Jinghong
The location is great, it is only a few minute walk to the night market near the riverbank and the Manting Park is also in walking distance. the area has many smaller restaurants with great (local) food. The apartment (2 rooms and bathroom) is spacious and clean and the bed is comfy. The owners are super-friendly and own tea-plantations in Yunnan and Laos, and can explain loads about tea. In the reception room there is a big tea table where tea can be drunk all day long for free.
Beautiful city views from the room! Hotel staff is super nice and helpful, even speak a little English. You get authentic Yunnan teas and a tea set in your room which was a nice surprise. Lots of heating options in the winter too, including a space heater and heating packs. Great location - nightlife area and the Old Town canal is only a few steps away. Has a strong inn-like or homestay vibe. The open calligraphy table and playable guzheng were nice touches.
Nestled in the heart of Lijiang's old town, this hotel is wonderfully cozy and strategically located, allowing easy access to everything around. The room was splendid overall, adorned with charming decor that added to its allure. The service was exemplary; as a non-Chinese-speaking solo traveler, I received immense assistance and valuable information from the staff who ensured I had all I needed to navigate the area and plan my onward Yunnan adventure.
I got such great service! When I arrived, I was immediately awestruck by the view of Snow Mountain right in front of the hotel – it’s so close The rooms are spacious with excellent layouts, and the common areas are stunning. Both indoor and outdoor lounges are beautifully designed. With great locations in Yuhu Village, a charming old town. Hotel have many activities you can add on and also served an incredible Local Yunnan Dinner.
The staff was so friendly and amazing. There was a welcome drink that we couldn't get enough of! The room was large, beds were comfortable (best in our 10 day Yunnan trip), and it was fun to stay in a historical building. Great location, lots of food, lots of shopping, lots of photo ops, lots of sights and sounds but still quiet enough.
The room is very large, hygienic and clean, simple and warm, making people very comfortable. The service attitude is very good, and the people are also very good. Choosing this hotel in Yunnan is great and very satisfying. I will recommend it to my friends around me. Come out to play, stay clean and comfortable, and feel good.
During the whole trip to Yunnan, the most satisfactory hostel was cost-effective, the room was clean, simple and hygienic, and it was smart. There was an oversized Alaska who was very well-behaved and the bosses were all too good. They were busy carrying luggage and unlimited refills of coffee.
Lijiang
The location was great, the room was comfortable. The room had a fantastic view of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, there was also a very nice bathtub. Overall, it was a very good room and a nice way to finish our stay in Yunnan province. The host was super helpful and spoke great English.
Shangri-La
The hostel itself is really pretty. It's an old Tibetan house with a nice courtyard and a balcony on the first floor. They serve excellent food all day. Try the Tibetan porridge or the yak meat burger. Honestly one of the best hostels I've stayed in in Yunnan.
Everything is satisfactory. This hotel was the most comfortable one we stayed at during our trip to Yunnan.
Not really sure where to start. One of the nicest B&B style hotels I’ve stayed anywhere in the world. Staff go above and beyond everyday and the ambience of the place is so relaxing it’s hard to stay standing. It’s just off the Main Street in the quieter of the “old towns” Shuhe, but it’s so quiet you wouldn’t even know it’s there. Beautiful surrounds and convenient to literally everywhere. Literally, just stay here: way more personal than any of the bigger hotels in the area I’m sure.
The staff are really friendly and helpful. The room is nice and clean with AC and eletric mattress. Great location near the ancient town. Super cute dog - sleeping beauty 😁 Highly recommended!
