Ideally located in the centre of Kyoto, Kokonoe Machiya offers air-conditioned rooms, a garden, free WiFi and a shared lounge. This Hostel is the best of my trip in Japan ! So cosy and a typical Japanese home, comfortable, quiet but sociable if you talk with other people in the common room. Beautiful and clean facility and kind and helpful hosts. Excellent English, which helped us quite a bit. A nice creative bakery run by the hosts on the ground floor and an excellent full breakfast available with the best coffee.

Loved our stay here! The owner was very helpful and friendly. Our arrival was a couple hours delayed and he kindly waited for us to welcome us/check us in. Easy communication via WhatsApp should you have any questions/concerns or even want some Kyoto recommendations. We enjoyed the beauty and charm of the building. The walls are thin so everyone is encouraged to be respectful and quiet throughout your stay which we were fine with. And the floor futons were extremely comfortable!

A very quiet, calm and peaceful hotel. The rooms were really big and had everything you need. There is even a washing machine, dryer that you can use in the hotel. The staff was attentive and polite. I will definitely go again. Thank you.

Very clean, very spacious rooms, very good location. Comfortable beds and pillows. Don't be intimidated with their garbage segregation policy. It's very easy: bottle, food containers and the rest are burnable trash. The hotel and the surrounding area can be a little too quiet, though, if you're used to the noise of the city.

Amazing modern hotel in Traditional Japanese style. Personnel was very friendly and had a lot of good tips! Very big room, very nicely decorated and all you need was there. The location is also great as it's very close to Kyoto station and there are some nice sightseeing spots closeby.
