Easily accessible from any part of the country, The Countryside Udawalawe offers country style hospitality and comfort in tranquil settings. A short drive from Udawalawe national park entrance and & reservoir, Homely Country house has comfortable cottages situated on an acre of tropical garden amidst flowering shrubs and fruit trees that attracts plenty of birds,squirrels and even the occasional monkeys.
UDAWALAWE NATIONAL PARK Udawalawe is an important habitat for water birds and Sri Lankan elephants. It is a popular tourist destination and the third most visited park in the country. Just 5km away from the cottage to park entrance ELEPHANT TRANSIT HOME ( ETH) This home helping to care for the area's injured elephants, is on the main road about 500m from the cottage, supported by Born Free foundation, complex is a halfway house for orphaned elephants MADUWANWELA MANSION The maduwanwela walawwa (Mansion) was first built in the 1700s and it was expanded at times by the Maduwanwela family until 1905 when the final expansion was done by Maduwanwela Maha disawe ( Ceylonese colonial era headman). At its height it had over 121 rooms and 80,000 acres of land surrounding it, at present there are on 47 rooms left, located on in the grounds is a courthouse with seating space for 100 people, furniture and the equipment used for punishments are still present.
